Subaru R-STi - JDM vs USDM: A Friendly Rivalry -- /TUNED
In the US, we never got the best Subaru of them all, the first generation
WRX coupe, getting stuck with the fun-but-not-fast 2.5RS version. One of
the more popular upgrades for those cars is the "R-STi" drivetrain swap. In
the season premiere of Tuned, we look at two approaches: the USDM
drivetrain swap, and the JDM drivetrain swap. Which is better? You decide.

THE RAREST 22B OF THEM ALL
The chassis number of this incredible 22B is 000/000, so essentially, STi
created 401 of these cars with the example in the video used as a
demonstration car back in 1999 and this is the most exclusive chassis of
them all. It is a rare treat for Subaru STi to allow anyone to have access
to the car but I was able to get in and around it for this exclusive
It has travelled 20,000 kilometers since new and is in absolutely
immaculate condition. Unfortunately it will likely never turn a wheel in
anger again. How does that make you feel?
Should this car be confined to a museum piece or should Subaru continue to
use it as a public track and event showpiece?
Also in this video is a short tour of Sti Mitaka's amazing collection of
rally cars including Colin McRae's 1998 3rd place finishing SanRemo Impreza
plus a couple of Petter Solbergs GDB and GRB WRC rally cars as well.
Mitaka Subaru is open to the public and visitors are welcome during office
hours 9am-11am and 12:40pm~5pm, from Monday to Friday except public and
To access STi Mitaka, take the Orange JR Chuo Line (RAPID) from Tokyo or
Tachikawa and get off at JR Musashi Sakai station. From there head to the
bus stations just outside and take a bus to the International Christian
University for Women and get off just outside the university - Subaru
Mitaka is right next door.

Jeremy Clarkson tests original Ford GT40
From the video: Jeremy Clarkson Most Outrageus.
The story began back in the early 60's. Ford wanted to dominate all the
branches of motorsport, and to win the famous 24 hours of Le Mans, they
decided the easiest way would be to buy Ferrari, which had an inpressive
and unchallenged streak of wins in this race.
But Enzo Ferrari came up with loads of new conditions for the sale all the
time. The deal turned sour and after some time, Ferrari closed the
Henry Ford II was furious! He ordered his best engineers to: "Create a car
that would crush the red italians!"
After two years of developement, testing, failure and improvement, the GT40
dominated Le Mans in 1966, with both first, second and third place being
taken by this incredible machine.
But it didn't stop there, all the three folowing years, the GT40 won the Le
Mans, securing it a place in all proper gearheads hall of fame.
SUBARU COSWORTH vs NISSAN GTR
The Cosworth engine in this Subaru just finished break-in. A first and
conservative tune raked in 491 hp on the Dyno at 17psi. The car was
assembled by Lachute Performance and this is its first day on the track.
Not a bad first day it was...
