Mark gets around the track pretty well in my car with an impressive time of 1:48.34. Mods include Tein Flex 10/7kg coilovers, Racing Beat hollow front anti-sway bar, 949 Racing 15x8" 6UL wheels with 205/50/15 Hoosier R6 tires, Fuji Racing header and CM Muffler Exhaust.

Emilio Cervantes sets the NASA TTE track record in my Miata. Now I have a much higher (lower?) bar to chase. This broke the previous record by 1.5 seconds! The car is a 1993 Mazda Miata with a 2000 engine, Tein Flex coilovers, Racing Beat hollow front anti-sway bar, 949 Racing 6UL 15x8" wheels with Hoosier 205/50/15 R6 tires.





March 11, 2012 Road Atlanta Miata Crash - NASA HPDE 2 group
This 2003 Miata Shinsen Edition was a brand new build by OPM Autosports in Cumming, GA. They installed cage, seat, Schroth 6 point harness, SPA AFFF 6 nozzle fire suppression system, radiator, brake lines, tow hooks and much more. They also oversaw the painting of the interior and hard top. Their workmanship is beyond reproach. It really was the coolest looking track Miata I had ever seen -- which makes this story so sad (OPM also did ride height, corner weights and alignment for Spec Miata class and provided track side support for this NASA SE event). I was in HPDE 2 group (one step above beginners). I waited three months for the build to complete. I promised myself I would not wreck on the very first weekend I had the car back but ... I did. I hit the inside wall after T3 pretty hard. Personally, I think I went to full throttle too soon at T3. If I had just waited a few tenths longer until the right rear tire had cleared the curbing before mashing the throttle, I think I would have been ok. It's a painful lesson. In my 1996 Miata going over Trinity Rd from Glen Ellen to Napa. Wanted to test my Samsung TL220 camera with my Panavise 809 mount, the video is quite shaky, need to work on that. Driven this road a lot, but went a little quicker this time and my girlfriend got a little freaked out!

This is a highlight of my first-ever filmed session in a real racing car. I have had a few laps in this car before at a few auto-x's and 2 laps at Buttonwillow, but nothing like this. All I can say is, "Wow...I want a racecar, like now!" I think I want to buy my third Miata now and finally make a legitimate racing car. However, I'm holding off until my MSM project is finished, which I hope is soon. Thanks to Emilio at 949Racing for letting me borrow the car for the session. This was taken at Road Atlanta running with NASA on March 16, 2008. I am driving a relatively stock C5 Z06 Corvette trying to keep up with a highly modified MTI Corvette Z06. I was able to keep up in the corners, but it had a lot of power to pull away on the straights. I am on Nitto 555R2 tires that are now due for replacement. The owner of the MTI Z06 is a very nice guy and has a very cool car. It was a lot of fun trying to keep up.
