Former U.S. Army Vice Chief of Staff General Richard Cody went to the National Corvette Museum earlier this month to take delivery of his 2010 Torch Red Corvette Grand Sport Convertible. Prior to picking up his vehicle the retired General toured the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, Ky., and talked to employees. This is the 10th Corvette General Cody has owned.

A Tour of the National Corvette Museum
Leslie J. Allen tours the National Corvette Museum and the assembly plant that makes the sports car. The factory in Bowling Green, Ky., marked its 30th anniversary last year and attracts as many as 50,000 visitors a year.

Every Corvette made today is produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky. See the step by step production of America's favorite sports car on this one-mile walking tour. Tours typically offered Monday-Thursday at 8:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:45 pm and 2 pm. Call or go online for tour schedule and reservations. Internal business matters can cause cancellation of tours; it is best to call ahead. No cell phones, cameras, purses, back or fanny packs. Closed toe shoes only. Must be 7 years or older, school groups must be 3rd grade or above. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to tour time.
The National Corvette Museum also offers indepth, behind the scenes VIP Plant Tours for guests wanting a smaller, more intimate and personal experience.

For enthusiasts who want to be personally involved in creating their Corvette, Chevrolet's new Corvette Engine Build Experience allows them to literally build the engine for their new car. In what is believed to be the first program of its kind, customers who order a 2011 Corvette Z06 or ZR1 can choose to pay an additional $5,800 and hand-assemble their cars' LS7 or LS9 engines at GM's Performance Build Center (PBC) in Wixom, Mich. In addition to building their own engines, Corvette buyers can attend driving school in Arizona or Nevada, take delivery of their vehicles at the National Corvette Museum or watch their vehicles being built at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky.
