$250 1997 Ford Explorer | First Start After Sitting For 1 Year
I CAN'T RESPOND TO COMMENTS. GOOGLE+ IS MESSED UP ON MY ACCOUNT!!!! Recently obtained a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport, and this is the first time it's started in over a year. We recently moved to a new house, and I noticed this truck sitting near the house. I talked to the landlord and found out that a previous renter had left this Explorer there due to an electrical problem. She said scrap wouldn't even give her $200 for it, so I said I'll buy it for $250. The plan is for me to fix it, get it in good shape again, and sell it for a profit. It's a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport. It's the 2-door model, 4.0l OHV pushrod V6, 5-speed manual transmission, dual range 4WD. It has 342,429 miles on it (551,086 kilometers), which is a lot. I took a look at it, and came up with a list of problems on it. I was unsure if it'd be worth it, if I'd be able to make a profit. But I didn't want to it to go to the junkyard. I decided I would try and get it to start. I didn't want to spend a lot of money since I didn't know if it had a major internal problem. I ended up paying $160 or so for new battery terminals, a new starter solenoid, and a new starter motor. Starter motor was a PITA to replace because of Ford's ridiculous engineering, but I got it done. And it started right up!! As you can tell, I was happy about it. With the engine running, I had the chance to test everything. The only things that don't work are the A/C, power mirrors, headlights, and rear wiper. But I will go on and try and fix those things. Next step is to change out the fluids. New oil, new oil filter, new coolant, and new power steering fluid. Also gonna change out the air filter, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. With all that done, I'm gonna make a run to the junkyard to make this thing driveable (seat doesn't stay upright and steering wheel is loose). Then gotta get it cleaned up and registered. I can definitely keep posting videos as this thing progresses!
