2012 Camaro ZL1 As Fast As Porsche or Lamborghini? Afraid So.
All of the naysayers out there that think American cars are junk, think again. This stock Camaro ZL1 turned times at the Nordschleife last week that were right there with Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari, all for 60,000 USD. Even Jeremy Clarkson has a Corvette ZR1, after he laughed at...then drove it.

2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Car Review with Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser
http://www.autobytel.com/chevrolet/Camaro/2012/zl1-coupe/ Chevrolet Camaro's Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser gives Autobytel a nice thorough review on the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1. This beat has 580 horsepower lurking under the hood. 0-60 MPH flies by in 3.9 seconds with the automatic transmission. This is going to be the ultimate Camaro. Chevy has never produced a Camaro with level of performance and technology built in.
It is not very often that you see high performance sports cars equipped with an automatic transmission. But in terms of shifting an automatic will always be quicker than a manual. The Hydra-Matic 6L90 automatic transmission does feature steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
The Magnetic Ride Control System on the Chevy Camaro ZL1 is the first can on the market with the latest and greatest generation of this technology. The shocks have metallic particles in the shock fluid itself. When the shocks sense movement they move the magnetic particles into a field that instantly dampens the suspension. If you are driving 60 MPH in the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 the Magnetic Ride Control System is making adjustments every inch. What this means is that you can have a very comfortable and stable ride on regular roads and a stiffer ride at the track.
What's different on the ZL1 body compared to the regular SS is the larger lower grille. This was designed in the wind tunnel to take air in and cool the engine. The air is then channeled out the hood extractor to prevent lift and make down force.
The Camaro ZL1 is an easy car to drive. You would think that a 580 horsepower vehicle would be a handful. The manual clutch is very smooth and the automatic transmission is a real joy. The ZL1 is a great car to drive around town in. The Chevy Camaro ZL1 has a base price of $54,095. Nothing on the Camaro ZL1 was compromised in terms of performance. Gas Mileage is not that great but you buy this vehicle for its performance and not its fuel economy.

2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 vs. Mark Stielow's Red Devil '69 Camaro - HOT ROD Unlimited Episode 13
On this episode of HOT ROD Unlimited, David Freiburger meets up with Pro Touring legend Mark Stielow to compare old and new Camaros head to head. Mark Stielow is a GM engineer with a long history of building vintage, street-worthy Camaros with amazing handling prowess. His latest is the Red Devil, a '69 model powered by a 427ci, supercharged LS9 that tops 750 hp and 800 lb-ft. It runs a six-speed trans and complete suspension from Detroit Speed, and has won a number of shootouts with similarly built Pro Touring cars. But can his modified muscle car outrun the technology of the Magnetic Ride suspension on the new, 580hp, 2012 Camaro ZL1? We head to GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan to find out.
