March 11, 2012 Road Atlanta Miata Crash - NASA HPDE 2 group
This 2003 Miata Shinsen Edition was a brand new build by OPM Autosports in Cumming, GA. They installed cage, seat, Schroth 6 point harness, SPA AFFF 6 nozzle fire suppression system, radiator, brake lines, tow hooks and much more. They also oversaw the painting of the interior and hard top. Their workmanship is beyond reproach. It really was the coolest looking track Miata I had ever seen -- which makes this story so sad (OPM also did ride height, corner weights and alignment for Spec Miata class and provided track side support for this NASA SE event). I was in HPDE 2 group (one step above beginners).
I waited three months for the build to complete. I promised myself I would not wreck on the very first weekend I had the car back but ... I did. I hit the inside wall after T3 pretty hard. Personally, I think I went to full throttle too soon at T3. If I had just waited a few tenths longer until the right rear tire had cleared the curbing before mashing the throttle, I think I would have been ok. It's a painful lesson.
Here are pics of car after repairs - better than new!!

Spec Miata Mayhem at Roebling
Nothing like the start of a Spec Miata race for crazy excitement. People
get shuffled out of order and it takes a few laps to sort things out. Make
sure you see the action at 2:20.
This is 5 laps from the Sarrc Invitational Challenge, the championship race
for the SCCA Southeast Division at Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah, GA,
held October 9th, 2011.

Road Atlanta Corvette Z06 chasing MTI Z06
This was taken at Road Atlanta running with NASA on March 16, 2008. I am
driving a relatively stock C5 Z06 Corvette trying to keep up with a highly
modified MTI Corvette Z06. I was able to keep up in the corners, but it had
a lot of power to pull away on the straights. I am on Nitto 555R2 tires
that are now due for replacement. The owner of the MTI Z06 is a very nice
guy and has a very cool car. It was a lot of fun trying to keep up.
FORMULA DRIFT ROAD ATLANTA 2012
Went to the Formula Drift in Atlanta. Best thing ever!!!! I plan on going
every year. Anyways heres what I caught. Didn't get the end of the races
cause we had to take off a bit early.
Big HPDE Crash at Pocono East Course Driving School on 5/5/06
Inexperienced driver in an Evo loses control when he takes two tires off
the racing surface and overcorrects. Slams into a NSX and G35 that were on
pit road waiting to go out in the next session. My brother and I were the
first two cars that DID NOT get hit...missed his front bumper by about 18
inches. Track officials staged cars way to close to the track and should
have kept us behind the wall until after session was completed.
Fortunately, no one was hurt bad. More than $60k in damage to the three

2012-04-21 - Spec Miata Engine Explodes on the Track - Barber Rezoom Event
My stock 1.8L with 92K miles on it explodes on the Barber track. Luckily I
did not get charged for oil cleanup (Barber is really strict in terms of
giving you a bill for any cleanup or damage to their facility - but it is a
nice track). This was a stock engine except the timing wheel had been
adjusted per the SM rules for 1.8L. There was a hole in the block for
number 4 cylinder and bits of piston head had come out the hole. I will
take the engine out and examine the damage more closely. But now I need a
new engine :(
Here are photos of the hole in the block and installation of new engine:
