Onboard: Monster Spin down the Craners
http://www.driver-coaching.com - This is a clip from the recent Powernights
event I took part in. The race is a mixed Sports and Saloon race, I'm in an
MR2 Challenge Car (MK2) on road tyres and soft springs, chasing and
catching a similar car
as we approach the Craner Curves at Donington. A move to the outside is
precluded by 2 super quick, slick
shod Radicals so switch to the inside. Looks like I'm going to get squeezed
at the apex so back out but unable to slow without lifting, then this
equation takes over Craners + Lift = Beach Holiday.
I am trying to get the car backward for the gravel as was afraid that a
side one hit might lead to a role, just about managed it mid gravel trap
then some manic steering work to get it back on track facing the right way
and not get collected.

Triumph Herald Prototypes - Proving Trip Through Africa
1958 saw a remarkable expedition of two Triumph Herald prototypes; a saloon
and coupe travel 9,000 miles through Africa from Cape Town to Tangier. If
the cars could manage this trip then the production cars could manage
anything - that was the thinking behind the journey from the management of
Standard Triumph. Poor roads, rain and across the Sahara desert the cars
(backed up with an Atlas van and Standard Pennant - although the Atlas van
was the vehicle that required the most work and rescuing).
Very little was changed to the prototype cars with the Herald being
launched the following year.
