2011 Le Mans 24 hrs / Oak Pescarolo #35 LMP2
spins, stucks at indianapolis corner, almost hit by Peugeot 908 when returning to the course.
Wondering if the 19 yrs old rookie was driving in the machine.
Mazda 787B Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011
This is the 1991 Le Mans winning Mazda 787B at the start line of the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed. You can get a good idea of the sound this thing produced by watching the the marshal at the right rear when the car backfires!
Mark Ticehurst at the wheel.
Mazda 787B Startup - Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011
Warming up in the Cathederal Paddock on Sunday morning 3rd July 2011.
Loud? I've stood next to plenty of F1 cars and this was certtainly no quieter.
Although it has only a 9000rpm max engine speed, with 12 combustion cycles PER REVOLUTION (unlike a 4 stroke V12 whihc would only have 6) this car produces 108,000 combustion cycles per minute. That is 36,000 more than a current 2.4l F1 car at 18000rpm!
This is the only real running 787B, there is however a second car which sports the same detailing (even down to Le Mans 1991 driver names) which is in much better (less faded, and less battle scars) whihc is used as a PR car. This car was a static display on the Mazda Cars UK stand also at Goodwood that day.
Enjoy!
