MAN HydroDrive

Mithilfe des zuschaltbaren Vorderradantriebs MAN HydroDrive können Fahrsituationen und Einsatzbedingungen gemeistert werden, die Fahrzeuge mit reinem Hinterradantrieb nicht bewältigen könnten und somit zusätzlich Zeit und Geld kosten würden. Herzstück der hydrostatisch angetriebenen Motoren ist ein mit der Radnabe fest verbundener Zylinderblock mit acht sternförmig angeordneten Zylindern. In den Zylindern befinden sich spezielle Kolben; auf dem jeweiligen Kolbenboden sind drehbare Rollen angebracht. Diese Rollen stehen im Kontakt mit der wellenförmigen Kontur eines außen umlaufenden Nockenringes. Wird nun der MAN HydroDrive eingeschaltet, setzt eine am Getriebeausgang angeflanschte Pumpe die Radnabenmotoren mit bis zu 420 bar unter Druck. Diese werden dadurch in Drehung versetzt, dass immer abwechselnd nur bestimmte Zylinder mit Druck beaufschlagt werden, während gleichzeitig bei anderen Zylindern das Öl abfließen kann. Bei den unter Druck stehenden Zylindern wird der Kolben nach außen gepresst, die Rollen stützen sich am Nockenring ab und es entsteht ein Drehmoment. In traktionskritischen Situationen genügt ein Dreh am Sperrenschalter, um die Weiterfahrt zu ermöglichen und Verspätungen und zusätzliche Kosten zu vermeiden. Das heißt, mehr Terminsicherheit und höhere Effizienz. Mit MAN HydroDrive ausgerüstete Fahrzeuge sind flexibel einsetzbar, da sie sowohl auf der Strasse als auch in unbefestigtem Terrain effizient unterwegs sind: Trotz des erweiterten Einsatzspektrums sind Nutzlast und Kraftstoffverbrauch auf dem Niveau eines Fahrzeugs mit reinem Hinterradantrieb. Gegenüber einem Fahrzeug mit konventioneller Allradtechnik ergibt sich eine Gewichtseinsparung von etwa 400 kg. Den MAN HydroDrive gibt es vom 2- bis zum 4-Achser für viele verschiedene Fahrzeugtypen verfügbar

Gravelrama 2010 #6 Hill Climb
Gravelrama 40 was held August 25-30 this year in Cleves, Ohio outside of Cincinnati. The East Coast 4 Wheel Drive Association event includes rock crawling, bracket sand drag racing, class sand drag racing, uphill drag racing, pea gravel hill climb, obstacle course, and even a parade through town. The hill climb is a fan favorite and didn't disappoint this year with well over two hundred runs.

Airless tire From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Airless tire Non-pneumatic tires (NPT), or Airless tires, are tires that are not supported by air pressure. They are used on some small vehicles such as riding lawn mowers and motorized golf carts. They are also used on heavy equipment such as backhoes, which are required to operate on sites such as building demolition, where tire puncture is likely. Tires composed of closed-cell polyurethane foam are also made for bicycles and wheelchairs. The main advantage of airless tires is that they cannot go flat, but they are far less common than air filled tires. Airless tires generally have higher rolling resistance and provide much less suspension than similarly shaped and sized pneumatic tires. Other problems for airless tires include dissipating the heat buildup that occurs when they are driven. Airless tires are often filled with compressed polymers (plastic), rather than air. Michelin is currently developing an integrated tire and wheel combination, the "Tweel" (derived from "tire" and "wheel," which, as the name "Tweel" suggests, are combined into one new, fused part), that operates entirely without air. Michelin claims its "Tweel" has load carrying, shock absorbing, and handling characteristics that compare favorably to conventional pneumatic tires. Automotive engineering group of mechanical engineering department at Clemson University is developing a low energy loss airless tire with Michelin through the NIST ATP project. Resilient Technologies and the University of Wisconsin--Madison's Polymer Engineering Center are creating a "non-pneumatic tire", which is basically a round polymeric honeycomb wrapped with a thick, black tread.
