How Long will the Prius Battery Last? - Jon Lancaster Toyota
What's the life of the Hybrid Battery in the Prius? This video shows an '05
Prius with 209,940 miles on the odometer still running on the origional
battery and showing an average MPG of 48. The owner bought it from me new
and traded it today for a new '10 model. The car ran and drove as if it had
60,000 miles on it. There are no indications of wear or a weak battery as
the monitor still shows a strong charge in the battery while driving.

Toyota Prius generation 2 2003-2009 battery repair replacement.MOV
How to fix a Prius generation 2 battery 2004-2009. This is the job Toyota
wont do an charge thousands of £££s to replace the entire battery. This
cost me £25 to fix myself. Also there are people selling you guides for
£££ss on how to do this, I thought I would work it out myself and share
the info for free.
Note: Safety first ALWAYS remove the Orange High Voltage plug from the
battery first before starting any work (takes 2 seconds to remove and
replace after), the battery is high voltage 200+V so be 100% safe. Only
attempt this job if you have an understanding of electrics.
I also diconnected the normal 12v car battery to be 100% sure.
Fault wise my car a 2006, had all the dash warning lights and check engine
management lights, VSC on and also the fan vent on the side of the rear
seat was constantly working overtime ! My car has 165k Miles on it
There are other videos on youtube explaining very well how to exactly strip
out the required interior trim in the back of your Prius to access the HV
battery and then how to remove it. Its very simple just 1 x orange HV power
safety plug 3x normal small plugs and LOTS of bolts.
Once you have got the battery out its a simple job to diagnose which is
the failing battery cell. I got a replacement single cell from eBay for
£25 inc shipping and thats all it took to fix it.
Tools wise again very simple
1 x 8mm socket
1x 10mm socket
1x 12mm socket
1x 14mm socket (for the 4x rear seat bolts)
1x Multimeter (to read the individual battery cell voltages) cheap mine
was about £20.
Note: When I reinstalled I still had a warning light (Triangle) on the
dash, this seems normal. After putting car in Drive and reverse a few
times, taking it for a quick drive down the road and powering the car on
and off this then resets itself.
Theres a nice battery removal documment downloadable free here:
Powell Smith has uploaded 3 great videos how to remove the battery part 1
also another great one from drsjr1969
Good luck and please stay safe. Share the knowledge.

Three big problems with the Prius - Tape 1
The Prius has three big problems:
1. It's designed as a gas car, with the motor as an assist;

A Dead Prius Battery Will Cost You Thousands - Or Will It?
http://www.carextended.com/ Up until just a couple of weeks ago, a dead
Prius battery usually spelled doom for your Prius. Why you ask? The cost
for a new Prius battery is over $3,000. Most Prius owners are told that
they either replace their battery or replace their car. That is some nice
news to get when you take your car in, is it not?
