How Long will the Prius Battery Last? - Jon Lancaster Toyota
What's the life of the Hybrid Battery in the Prius? This video shows an '05 Prius with 209,940 miles on the odometer still running on the origional battery and showing an average MPG of 48. The owner bought it from me new and traded it today for a new '10 model. The car ran and drove as if it had 60,000 miles on it. There are no indications of wear or a weak battery as the monitor still shows a strong charge in the battery while driving. Toyota Prius Battery Repair: Replacing one bad module (common failure)
In this video I diagnose and replace one bad module in a 2005 Toyota Prius high voltage (HV) battery. Just a simple voltage check on the positive and negative posts of each battery module will show you which module needs to be replaced. The video describes which fasteners to remove and the technique for removing and replacing the affected module. The module we replaced cost $51, shipped from an Ebay seller. The Toyota dealer wanted $3500 to replace the entire battery with a new one. So, the car is fixed for $50 and a couple of hours of labor. I've repaired two battery packs with the same method. Pretty simple. Sorry for the monochrome video. My camera decided to do that on it's own...
