11 legendary racecars at 2013 24h of Le Mans (D-type, GT40, 917, 962, 787B, 905, ...)
To mark the 90th anniversary of the 24h of Le Mans, 11 legendary cars were chosen by the public and a jury. 1 for each decade. Because there was a tie in the votes, 2 cars from the '90s were present. All cars did 2 slow parade laps before the actual FIA WEC race would start on saturday. On friday all 11 cars were put on display on the racetrack between the pit-exit and the dunlop bridge. The rest of the week the cars were on display in a big tent. 60's Racing - Lola, Ford GT40 Detomaso Pantera - Spa Six hours 2013
V8 engine is a V engine with eight cylinders mounted on the crankcase in two banks of four cylinders, in most cases set at a right angle to each other but sometimes at a narrower angle, with all eight pistons driving a common crankshaft.[1] In its simplest form, it is basically two straight-4 engines sharing a common crankshaft. However, this simple configuration, with a single-plane crankshaft, has the same secondary dynamic imbalance problems as two straight-4s, resulting in vibrations in large engine displacements. As a result, since the 1920s most V8s have used the somewhat more complex crossplane crankshaft with heavy counterweights to eliminate the vibrations. This results in an engine which is smoother than a V6, while being considerably less expensive than a V12 engine. Most racing V8s continue to use the single plane crankshaft because it allows faster acceleration and more efficient Exhaust system designs.[2]





Racing In America Spotlight: 1967 Ford Mark IV
In 1967, American racing history was made, and thus far has never been matched again. With the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, Racing in America reflects on the 45th anniversary of the Ford Mark IV claiming the second of four consecutive victories for Ford Motor Company cars at Le Mans, arguably the greatest American racing victory on foreign soil. That day in 1967, the stunning red Mark IV, now in the procession of Henry Ford Museum as part of its Racing in America collection, was driven to the overall victory by A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney. It remains today the only Le Mans overall win by American drivers, in an American-built car, with an American engine (Ford V8), prepared by an American team (Shelby American).

The same team as the one from the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe that we've uploaded yesterday (check out the video response!) brought two other American legends to Spa-Francorchamps, the Ford GT40. It is so great to see that there are people that really use those legendary cars on the track and do not let them eat dust in a garage. Besides those two Ford GT40s, there was also a yellow Ford GT40 in another pit box. I'm not sure if this yellow GT40 is from the same team as the other two. I've never seen an original Ford GT40 in real life, and two days ago I saw three at the same time on the best track in the world: Spa-Francorchamps.
