Installing Magnaflow Glasspacks on a 05 Crown Victoria pt3, with UpDates, better gas mileage!!!!
Me going over the basic install on my 05 Vic, jacked up in my car port, a
few notes about removing the old mufflers and putting in the new 22"
perforated core glasspacks.
Inlets and outlets are 2"
The Magnflow is the same as the Thrush, a perforated core, where the
Cherrybomb has a louvered core.
The cherrybombs burn out the core packing over time and get louder.
The Magnaflows don't burn out the core but are louder from the get go.
UPDATE. 08/20/12. Ive been playing with the Exhaust on my 05 P-71, i installed Magnaflows
and its gone from dead quite to a little loader than i like. all the
loudness is at the Exhaust tips (not
much coming from the glasspack body) someone was telling me the the sound
waves at the back can oscillate side to side and set up a resonate, a
drone, and depending on pipe size and engine the intensity could vary alot.
I'm gonna try and rotate my tips so they aim away from each other.
I'm also looking for some kind of Exhaust tip that can reduce the bark. UPDATE
Since my last post Ive added approx. 18" tips that are 45*degree, (bought
tips at Canadian tire for ten bucks each) i cut my old tips off and slipped
these on, The Exhaust now terminates
just past the bumper, the tips are square not slash cut and angle away from
each other, you can not see down into the pipe as before. the sound change
with this very simple change, tone is about the same, Pretty throaty, but
over all volume is down a good amount, i don't need to have the stereo
turned up near as much, conversation with a passenger is no longer
Still barks good when i punch it.
UpDate 09/20/12 I,ve been tracking the fuel consumption since doing these
modifications and Ive seen a huge improvement, i went from approx a mitly
360-370 kilometers per 62 liters to 450-460 kilometers, thats going from 20
miles per imp. gallon to 23, thats a huge jump. the car has more torque and
stays in over-drive way better.
This mod is worth it way more just for the improved mileage, sound is great
on the hi-way, you've gotta change the tips like i mention earlier though.
Added note 01-17-13.
I added a muffler support later that i don't mention in the video. go to
minute 2.5 and you will see the old muffler support rubber bushing up
there on the frame. I used a peice 1/2' scrap rebar bent in 4 spots to
craddle under the mufflers and take some weight, it inserts into the
bushings on ether side, works good.
2006 P71 Stock Exhaust with Magnaflow Mufflers - Before and After
2006 Crown Victoria P71 - Stock with stock Exhaust.
Video showing difference between full stock Exhaust and stock Exhaust with Magnaflow stainless steel 14" case
mufflers - model 11224.
Get 14" case mufflers, forget 18" unless you intend to go with dual high
flow cats instead of the four stock cats.
Sorry for the switch from 720p HD to standard def. I clipped a button on
my camera before recording the "after" videos.
