68 Chevelle SS Restoration
Daily Driver to Resto-Mod
Im writing you in regards to a 68 Chevelle SS that we built a little
while ago when I was the manager at a body shop in Portland, Maine. The
car was built mostly by myself, and the shop foreman, Dave Gribbin, on
nights and weekends.
There were some things done by the other employees while things were a
little slow, but Dave and I did the vast majority of the work after hours.

Matching, SS396 who had grown bored with the stocker after a few months...
After some shopping around at a few local body shops and custom shops,
he wandered into my office. After speaking to him at some length, (it
felt like a job interview) about my experience with hot rods, muscle
cars and drag racing (my family owned Winterport Drag way in Winterport
Maine for 12 years) and speaking with Dave for a while Jim decided
that he trusted us with the chore of painting the car... as all
projects do this one snowballed from a mild custom paint job to a frame
Jim DeWolfe was a budding car guy, he had
purchased a Chevelle SS, a 1968 big block Chevelle SS. The problem with
the Chevelle is that it was just another Chevelle, he wanted it to stand
out and be different so he brought it to us to see what we were about.
All of us being major gear heads and muscle car nuts finally
rubbed off onto Jim and soon a full blown project was in the works.
We started by completely disassembling the entire car, and within
a month (again working mostly nights and weekends) we had a bare frame
sitting on a lift in the shop. I ground down all the welding slag from
the original assembly and prepped it for paint. We hung the frame in
the booth and applied a fresh coat of single stage black urethane.
Everything on the frame was replaced except for the front upper and
lower control arms and factory spindles. We used Eibach prokit
springs, SSBC 12" front disc conversion, Hellwig hd swaybars and
Edelbrock tubular lower and turnbuckle uppers (that just happened to
be powder coated the correct red) along with chassis stiffeners to go
with the East Coast Performance sourced DTS 12 bolt that was fitted
with 9inch ford tube ends that allowed us to attach the SSBC 11" rear brake
kit with e brake. Before putting the body back on we ran the stainless
brake lines, ½ aluminum fuel line, set the gas tank in place, and prepped
of the floor for bed liner. All the brake hardware and the shocks were
painted the matching candy red from SEM color horizons. The Merlin 509's
block was painted the base silver bolted to the TCI turbo 400 and set in place
on energy suspension mounts. Whats funny is Jim originally ordered Merlins
Then the rear end was connected to the transmission via a color matched
Williams Brothers driveshaft. Next the body was lowered onto the fresh
chassis, once the body was bolted down on some more of energy
suspensions products, we set to straighten out the body from its 40
year life. Dave stripped the body to metal and aligned all the panels
before applying the high build primer letting one of the techs
final block the car and prep it for paint. We commissioned Tommy Mcneil
from Bonehead designs in Gilmington Iron Works New Hampshire to lay out the
awesome tribal flame job, before he was done he applied a drop shadow, and
outlined the flames with process blue.
The flames and pin striping also go into the door jambs, and for a
touch Tommy also applied a little hot rod pin striping around the trunk
Finishing touches on the outside include all new chrome trim,
new Hella headlights. On the inside we went mostly stock with a
gauge cluster, a couple auto meter gauges, Scat Pro Car seats, new
carpet and trim panels, along with recovered rear seat, and a Budnik
steering wheel for some flash. Dan Mayhew installed a kickin' sound system
inside with a glove box mounted eclipse head unit, which also controls
Jims I-pod, two kicker amps, and two kicker subs in the trunk in a box
that Jim built himself, with some mids and highs in the kick panels
and rear deck. For rolling stock, we chose 20x8 and 20x10 Coddington
smoothie IIs with 255-35s up front and 295-30s out back.
Todd Lapointe finished up the mechanical aspects including Lokar
cables and braided stainless flexi lines for the brakes, got everything
adjusted and tweaked. After an alignment, and a tune by the local carb guru
ready for a road test, and let me tell you this thing is fast..
This car was built in about 9 months of nights and weekends, it was a total
team effort, and it was a pleasure to work with someone who didn't mind
money it took to make the build correct.
65 Mustang Fastback Restoration Project
This is my 1965 Mustang
Fastback I rescued from a field rusting away. I finished it around July of
2008 in my back yard garage with no professional assistance at all. It took
me about 26 months to complete. It has a 302 Ford motor and an 5 Speed
manual transmission. I restored this car to the information on the original
data plate on the door that included the body color and interior. The
stripe is unique in that I added a darker red to the Poppy Red body color
to get a stripe that is a little darker but blends in with the factory
color. This car features four wheel disc brakes made from all Ford parts.
1972 Charger 6.1 Hemi, 6-Speed Viper Transmission - Dyno Session
We finally had a chance to tune the 72 charger that we currently finished
building for a local client. We took his one owner original 72 Charger and
implanted an 07 Charger 6.1 Hemi engine and a 6-speed Manual Viper
Transmission, all new Suspension, front K-Member, rear 4-Link, 4-wheel Disc
brakes, Rack-n-Pinion Steering. Fabricated in the 2007 Charger Gauge
Cluster & Steering column with the original dash. Took a 2009 Challenger
6-Speed console and fabricated it into the car. Along with a Mazda touch
screen DVD NAV system, Some Carbon Fiber to help tie the interior pieces
together, recovered a pair of electric convertible Sea-bring bucket seats
as well, with an Audi TT flip down access panel molded into the dash to
cover the Vintage AC, Lights, & Wiper controls! Enjoy the video...

high-schooler Nick Suckow bought himself a '68 Dodge Charger. He was gonna
fix it up and roar down the road. Nick was born a gearhead. A hot rod. From
the first time he drove, he drove hard. The redline was always at hand.
When he joined the Army out of high school and shipped to Germany he got
hooked on the autobahn, where you could ease over to the left lane, stomp
the foot-feed flat, and shoot, they just let you go. "Fast," Nick likes to
say, "isn't the same as reckless." All that racing around, and then life
served up a grim little joke: The day Nick Suckow wrecked - the day his
life changed forever, the last day he ever stood on his own two feet - he
was going 35 miles per hour with his seatbelt on. He'd been married two
weeks. He and his wife were on their way home from their Wisconsin
honeymoon, making the run back to Texas in Nick's Gran Prix. They were
towing a rusted-out Ford Bronco - Nick always had his eye out for a cheap
beater, and he had found one up north. On a rough stretch of road Nick
crawled in the Bronco to keep it straight. The front tire hooked a pothole.
The tie rod snapped. The seat belt broke. He landed in the ditch. The
Bronco landed on his neck. Nick says he remembers the sun in his eyes. Then
the darkness closing in. A lot of years, then. Hospitals. Home. Hospitals.
The marriage ended. Back to Wisconsin. Rehab, and more hospitals. The speed
demon, not going anywhere fast. But eventually he had them drag that
Charger out. Arranged to get it in the shop. Whenever he had a little
money, he'd get some work done. "They whittled away at it," he says. "I
told my mom, if I die, dump my ashes in the fuel tank, and I'll go down the
drag strip one last time." Seventeen years. Seventeen years of learning how
to live from the neck up. Seventeen years of whittling. Hed show you the
latest pictures - a quarter panel here, a shot of primer there, a couple
tires. He'd get down to the shop, supervise in person when he could. He
couldn't run the wrenches, but he could run the show. He'd sneak out for a
little speed fix sometimes - once a paraplegic friend strapped Nick's chair
to a motorcycle sidecar and they blew down the road, one good pair of arms
between'em. Nick says it was good to feel the wind on his face. On a sunny
day in October of 2006, Nick Suckow's pals helped him slide from one set of
wheels into another. They strapped him in the passenger side, and you could
see the anticipation on his face, even behind the mirrored shades. The car
cruised out of the lot, and then picked up speed, the blower making a Mad
Max whine as the wheels warmed to the road. After a nice easy ride, the
Charger pulled to a stop on an isolated little stretch of blacktop. There
was a quiet moment, before the driver wound that 426 fuel-injected blown
Hemi up tight. Then Nick Suckow gave the nod and went fishtailing down the
blacktop on a journey that had never really ended.

Dodge Charger Back to Life (Burnout)
Heres a video i made of the restoration and modification of a 1972 Dodge
1: "That burnout sucked, why did you use oil?"
1: I apologize i know its kind of lame LOL but i had just bought the tires
when i made the video and i need them to last as long as possible cuz they
are not cheap. This car can burn in dry and stay there. I decided to use
oil to make smoke out of the oil instead of the tires.
2: "Why Automatic Transmission?"
2: Because this is my everyday car and manual transmissions in classic cars
are very unpractical in traffic, when i can have this car as my weekend car
i will make it a manual.
3: "You Must Be a Rich Kid, This was made with your fathers money"
3: No, Hell No. I bought this car for 3000 bucks in very bad condition and
worked very hard everyday after school with my own hands in it for about 2
years and put all my life savings into it.
