FULL Camaro COVERAGE @ INSIDELINE.COM:
The last thing General Motors needs right now is to appear as if it's stuck in the past, creating gas-guzzling cars that are out of step with what the federal government thinks is the future.
So even when Chevrolet steps into the way-back machine to unveil the 426-horspower retro-inflected 2010 Chevy Camaro SS, it's careful to mention that this muscle/pony car is the "sports car for the 21st century" and emphasizes the Camaro's fuel economy ratings more than its 0-60-mph performance.
So we did what had to be done. We dropped an asphalt-melting burnout in the parking lot of a former seminary that was of such destructive length that the guys hired by Chevy to prep and clean the Camaros had time to wander over and say, "Stop. You're done."
Had a Dairy Queen been available we would have laid a patch in front of that, too. Look, man. We've been waiting for years for the arrival of this car; there will be time to talk about balance and the quality of the interior materials later.

In our recent pony car comparison test, the retro-heavy — and just plain
heavy — 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS walked away with top
honors in its debut. The big V8-powered coupe needed a new challenge. It
was time to refocus the lens. Shoot from a different angle, so to speak.
So we squared the brooding visage of our SS-badged protagonist up against
the cruelest bunch of savages we could find, the range-topping 2009 Dodge
Challenger SRT8 and 2010 Ford Shelby GT500.
Camaro Fights Mustang and Challenger - Muscle Car Comparison
MORE MUSCLE CAR MADNESS @ INSIDELINE.COM:
In 2002, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second human being to set foot on the
moon, punched a guy in the face for accusing him of faking the moon
landing. Buzz was 72 years old at the time.
Go right ahead and question the existence of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T
and 2010 Chevy Camaro
SS and they, too, might just give you a knuckle sandwich in the kisser.
Like Mr. Aldrin, they bear names from long ago that have made a collective
return to the limelight. Like Mr. Aldrin, they are American heroes with
unparalleled legacies reaching across decades. And like Mr. Aldrin, they
have Ph.Ds in kicking ass.
Their makers may have proven that they have the financial acumen of a blind
yak. However, we submit these pony car icons as proof that the home team
can extract their craniums from their nether regions once in awhile and
knock the cover off the ball.

Ford Shelby GT500 v Hennessey Camaro:
Hennessey HPE550 Supercharged Chevy Camaro SS:
We're looking at the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR and 2008 Chevrolet Corvette
Z06, but we're imagining a '68 Shelby GT500KR staging next to a Corvette
with one of the 427-cubic-inch V8s on the Connecting Highway in Queens, New
York, probably sometime during the Nixon administration. We don't know how
the cars are tuned or which driver has the better hole-shot technique, but
we're calling our street race in favor of the Vette.
You see, there's no historical basis for a close Corvette-Mustang rivalry. A Corvette of any
year is a little too fast and smart to be street racing ratty muscle cars.
It's a real sports car, the kind of car that's still fun when you start
going around corners.
But maybe it's a different story with this 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR and
2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Each of these rear-wheel-drive coupes has a V8
rated for more than 500 horsepower at the flywheel.
And with the release of the limited-edition 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, Ford
has moved in on Chevrolet's price territory. The GT500KR leaves the Ford
factory as a $46,730 GT500 coupe and is shipped as a rolling chassis to
Carroll Shelby's facility near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. By
the time the KR cruises out of Shelby's shop, it's an $82,395 Mustang.
As such, the King-of-the-Road Mustang must now contend with this
$76,920 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. And though the Z06 is a few horsepower shy of the
upcoming ZR1, it's not an easy mark. The GT500KR will have to play like a
sports car just to keep up.
Fast & Furious 4: The Cars and Trucks
FAST & FURIOUS COVERAGE @ INSIDELINE.COM:
Opens Friday, April 3!!!
In the movie business, cars are expendable. They're not respected, nowhere
near cherished, subject to abuse and constantly thrashed. It doesn't matter
if the cars are Ferraris or Ford Crown Vics, the job of any vehicle in a
movie is to tell the story effectively — even if it must be destroyed in
order to do so. And in a movie like Fast & Furious (opening April 3) the
cars do a lot of storytelling. We should know; we went behind the scenes.
In October of 2007, Dennis McCarthy was hired as the picture car
coordinator for Fast & Furious, and after leasing a 60,000-square-foot shop
in Southern California's San Fernando Valley and hiring a staff of
mechanics and fabricators, he got started building the 240 or so cars that
would be needed for the production — to portray about a dozen on-screen
cars tied to a character. After all, duplicates were needed of every car to
ensure the production never had to slow down; to perform specific stunts;
and to be wrecked in the most spectacular way possible.
Using documentation from the production's picture car department and
in-person interviews with McCarthy and his hard-working team of
fabricators, Inside Line has created the most comprehensive guide to this
year's hottest movie cars. Here it is: Inside Line's guide to the cars and
trucks of Fast & Furious.

2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Drive & Review: The Fastest Daily Driver Ever
( http://www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Camaro ZL1 is the fastest and
most powerful production Camaro ever built by Chevrolet.
But you probably already knew that. What you might not know is that this
almost 600 horsepower car is really a
pussy cat to drive. In fact if it got better gas mileage you could easily
use it as a daily commuter. It is that easy and relaxed to drive even
though under the hood is the supercharged beating heart out of the Cadillac
CTS-V. In this review we get to know the fastest production Camaro that GM has ever built by
spending a week with it and using it as a daily driver.
