JCG Restorations 1968 Camaro -- /BIG MUSCLE
Tucked away in a small industrial park in Oxnard, CA sits JCG Restorations
& Customs, a moderately sized shop that has built some of the best
performing pro-touring cars that we've ever driven. Now generally we don't
focus in on shops, however when the owners of three of our best test cars
start dropping names, we tend to listen. Originally we descended on JCG to
drive Blu Balz, a stunning 1968 Camaro owned by one Karl Dunn.
However since Mother Nature decided to water the Earth that day, we put our
original plans on hold and got shop owner Cris Gonzalez to give us the in's
and out's of what it takes to make a stellar pro-touring car.
2400 HP 68 Camaro racing on the street
In 2007 this guy brought his 2,400 horsepower 68 Camaro to the street drags at GCA
days in St. Paul NE. He proceeded to put on quite a show for those in
attendance, I couldnt believe they let him run the thing, it could have
gotten outta hand real quick. The previous year, i watched this car run 170
mph at Kearney Raceway Park on a licensing pass.

The 700hp, blown Crusher Camaro is HOT ROD's longest-term
project car, surviving 20 years at the magazine. David Freiburger's 675hp
Hemi 1970 Dodge Super Bee is his first car, having been with him 30 years.
Both cars suffer from magazine-project-car syndrome: getting brief spurts
of attention followed by long periods of neglect. For the first time in
years, both cars were running and driving at the same time.
The Crusher Camaro is a
'67 model that was purchased for $700 in 1994 during California's
car-crushing program; it was rescued from the parking lot of a junkyard
where it was about to be handed in for crushing. It's been through a number
of engines in its time at HOT ROD magazine, and the most recent is a 489ci
bi-block (4.280 bore, 4.250 stroke) with 9.3:1 compression. It has a small,
224-at-0.050 Comp hydraulic roller cam, Holley oval-port heads, and a
Weiand 8-71 Supercharger with two Holley
850HP carbs. The engine makes 700 hp and 720 lb-ft on 5 psi Boost, but is tame enough to drive anywhere.
The transmission is a Gearstar 4L85E that's really awesome, and the Ford
9-inch is loaded with 3.50 gears. The car is styled with Center Line Auto
Drags and a nose-high stance to look like a street machine of the early
¹80s. It has run 10.60 at 125 in the quarter-mile in the same trim seen in
Freiburger's ¹70 Dodge Super Bee is powered by a 10:0:1-compression, 484ci
Hemi with ported iron cylinder heads and a Comp solid roller camshaft. It
also uses a Holley Dominator carb on a custom dual-plane intake manifold by
Dick Landy, whose shop built the long-block in 1995. It made 675 hp on the
engine Dyno, but in
the car is has smaller headers, fairly restrictive Exhaust, and a mechanical fan that pull it down
to around 600. The trans is a Gearstar 727 Torqueflite backed by a Gear
Vendors under/overdrive, and the Strange 60 rearend has 3.73 gears (a
little too high for the
natuarally aspirated combo). The car weights 4,050 pounds with the driver,
and has run 11.80 at 118 mph on the motor.

1971 Chevelle vs 1983 Pro Street S10 Street Racing Summer 1992
Found this on an old VHS tape from my wild and reckless youth. 1992, I was
22 years old racing my 454 powered 71 Chevelle against Bob Murrah's pro
street S10. This was the first time I had ever raced the car and the last
time the car ever had street radials on it. My friend Frank and I had just
installed the engine the day before this race. Eventually I got the car to
run 11.82 @ 119 on slicks at the dragway.
2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 vs 2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition! - Head 2 Head Ep. 52
On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman travels to Barber
Motorsports Park for a head to head matchup with the brand new Chevy Camaro Z/28 and a well
known heavyweight, the Nissan GT-R. But not just any GT-R, the 2014 Track
Edition which packs a 545 hp twin-turbo
V-6, a 6-speed dual clutch transmission, sticky Dunlop tires and AWD
traction into a car without rear seats. The Z/28, by way of contrast,
features a massive 7.0-liter naturally-aspirated V-8, a 6-speed manual
transmission, and tail-out RWD. While it does still have rear seats, nearly
every other non-essential component has been removed. Moreover, the Z28's
tires might be even stickier! The front ones, enormous 305-sections, are
certainly the widest tires ever bolted to a production car. Both cars are
phenomenal, and both cars make rational men scream, "Gimme!" But only one
can come out on top. Watch and find out!
