Saab 9-3 cylinder head retorque
I'm showing how to do the cylinder head bolt retorqueing on a Saab 9-3 but
this will work for 900 (1994-1998) Saab 9-3 (1998-2003) and Saab 9-5 and
maybe the 9000. It's very vague but it shows how and what to do.
Blown Head Gasket Saab 9-3?! Start Up With LOTS of Smoke
Well a lot of you probably remember the 2000 Saab 9-3 Hatch back that we
had at the dealership a couple of months ago. Well something happened to
the engine to where it just billows an un natural amount of pure white
smoke! They brought it back so we can get it fixed for them. In this
video I try and assess what's going on and see if you all have any
suggestions on what it could be before we send it to the shop. Dad also
pulls it around and sees for him self. we're thinking it's a head gasket
and maybe a motor mount or a tranny mount. Post below what you guys think
it is and I'll let you all know when we find out. You will see what I mean
and how bad this thing is haha, enjoy!
2000 Saab 9-5 engine removal through top
My brother and I haphazardly proceed with a DIY B235 engine swap (out the
top as opposed to our previous method of dropping the subframe). This is
not a DIY instructional, but 2 guys doing work on an unfamiliar brand, with
limited time and facilities. This footage was condensed from 90 minutes of
In retrospect, I would have done this outside. The garage is just under 8
feet so clearance was an issue for the hoist. Also, the transmission
leaked the entire time - watch for the encroaching pool of fluid! Learn
from our experience and read up on the procedure well: we had not removed
all the brackets and stud mounting from the transmission which would have
made things go much, much faster
and safer. Lots of effort was spent trying to get the leveler to return
from its extreme angle, but we had a cheapie from HFT. Definitely most
efficient as a 2-man operation.

Many viewers have misunderstood this video, so I explain it a little:
-Speed at finish line (1mile/1609m) is measured. Time is not measured.
-First Saab does 1st and 2nd gear with ~half throttle. Second Saab has
limited Boost for 1st and 2nd gear.
- three extra seconds between 0-100kmh typically means ~30meters wasted.
But three extra seconds used in speeds close to 300kmh, means almost

-A Saab 9-5 driver pushes a little too much throttle @3rd gear and looses
traction. He lifts a throttle and pushes it back, but too much again and
then he gears up 4th, a bit earlier than planned. (optimal is@205kmh).
Earlier that summer I broke one gearbox when pushing too hard on 3rd gear.
With new gearbox and at later event, I drove very gently on first three
gears to avoid breaking it again. I pushed WOT for the first time on 4th
gear @ 190kmh. You can hear it clearly on following video. Engine tone
changes totally around 200kmh. Incar video is from 299kmh pull (at 1 mile
race) Something happened to camera during the run. So I didn't get any
incar video from a 305kmh pull. To see that run from the start line, please
