4-door 2011 Impreza WRX STI - sedan is back!!
Just as Impreza was always like, a 4-door version is back in Japan market on July 1st, 2010. A release of 5-door hatchback version in 2007 was quite a surprise although it resulted in good sales, but many of old Subaru Impreza fans were disappointed because 4-door was the tradition and image of the Subaru WRC cars. And finally.. Subaru was kind enough to give us a new option of 4-door Impreza, while maintaining the production of 5-door version. Ex-WRC champion Tommi Mäkinen was involved in developing this 4-door Impreza as a test driver. According to Subaru, Tommi marked 7:55 on Nurburgring, which is 4 seconds faster than 2004 WRX STI. The rear trunk is relatively smaller than hatchback ver, but the sedan body of Impreza looks beautiful. Subaru says its 3D-shaped rear wing and longer rear overhang brings more effective aero dynamics and higher top-speed than 5-door hatchback. My short test drive on low speed was surprisingly quite comfortable although its springs/dampers were hardened than the previous model. And the 43kg torque was an astonishing power experience that made me hold my breath for a moment! Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line
The Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line swaps-in a traditional five-speed automatic transmission with Sportshift in place of the six-speed manual. Paddle shifters and a blipping control system that automatically raise engine revs during downshifts are standard. This follows in the footsteps of Mitsubishi, which began offering its Evolution sans a third pedal last year with a dual-clutch gearbox. Almost everything from the normal manual version makes the jump to the A-Line, with the exception of the Brembo brake system. In place of those, Subaru uses a set of 17-inch, dual-piston discs in the front and 16-inch discs out back. The rest of the chassis, exterior aero items and SI-Drive are carried over. The A-Line's turbocharged 2.5-liter flat four-cylinder is rated at 296 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Only available in manual up till recently, the A-line brings to the market an automatic option for those who prefer their drives a little less involving but still want the power and grunt of the legendary rex on demand under their right foot. The A-Line was introduced in 2009 for Japan and Singapore only and Subaru says there are no plans to bring the A-Line to the States, but I think there are a lot Subaru enthusiasts in U.S who would be interested in this model.
