Chevrolet Unveils Colorado Show Truck
Boldly styled show truck previews next-generation midsize pickup
BANGKOK, Thailand - Chevrolet today revealed the Colorado Show Truck in
advance of the Bangkok International Auto Show, where it is making its
global public debut. The concept previews the next-generation Colorado
midsize pickup truck, which will build on Chevrolet's strong truck DNA and
award-winning heritage. The Colorado goes on sale in Thailand later this
"Thailand is the world's-largest market for midsize pickups, so this was
the perfect location in which to unveil our new Colorado," said Susan
Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. "Trucks
have been part of Chevrolet's core for nearly all of its 100-year history.
The Colorado reinforces that heritage with expressive design, refinement
and uncompromising capability."
The show truck features an extended-cab body atop a high-stance AWD chassis
and rides on large, 20-inch wheels and off-road tires. Power comes from an
efficient 2.8L turbo-diesel engine,
which produces a broad torque band for excellent cargo and towing
"Although this is a show vehicle, the basic proportions and form convey the
vision for the next-generation Colorado that we will bring to market," said
Brad Merkel, GM's global vehicle line executive. "It reflects a stylized
version of the new truck, one that takes into account rugged dependable
truck capabilities for commercial use as well as sophisticated refinement
for personal-use needs."
While the new Colorado was developed within GM's global product development
organization, engineers took careful steps to ensure it would meet local
market needs. Roberto Rempel, GM's global vehicle chief engineer, lived in
Thailand for several months during the truck's development, immersing
himself in the market and observing how the Thai people use their trucks
and the road conditions they experience.
"Pickups are instrumental in the vibrant Thai economy and owners take great
pride in their trucks, which are used for both work and personal driving,"
he said. "These customers ask a lot of their trucks, so the powertrains and
chassis must be very robust to earn their trust -- and that's exactly what

2011 Chevrolet Colorado Concept
Behold, the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado. Sort of. General Motors has
yanked back the sheets on what the company is calling a show truck at the
Bangkok International Motor Show. Despite the 'show' label, the mid-sizer
is poised to go on sale in Thailand later this year packing a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine, though there are no
firm details as to what we can expect in terms of either power or
efficiency. GM did say that the Colorado won't leave buyers lacking for
enough towing capacity, though. Odds are we can expect tricks like the
20-inch wheels and body-color tonneau cover to be nixed as the truck makes
its way closer to production.
Still, the vehicle is plenty sharp and looks to have the mechanical guts to
give the global Ford Ranger a run for its money. But will GM offer the
Colorado we see here in the States? That's a tough question. The automaker
has made it clear that the Shreveport, Louisiana plant that manufactures
the aging Colorado/GMC Canyon isn't long for this world, though we have
heard rumors that the automaker isn't planning on killing the pickup all
together. Here's hoping we'll see this truck or something similar in the
States sometime soon.
2012 Ford Ranger Wildtrak
The all-new Ford Ranger Wildtrak makes its global debut at the 2011 Geneva
Motor Show, a sporty compact pick-up that delivers impressive power and
safety, excellent fuel efficiency and significant capability. It exudes a
powerful presence bolstered by the latest in-car comfort and technologies.
The new global Ford Ranger boasts an extensive range of class-leading
"smart" features that make it easier, safer and more fun to drive than
ever. It also sports a unique Rear View Camera System - the camera image is
displayed in the rear view mirror - which dramatically improves visibility
and simplifies hooking up to a trailer.
Aiming to deliver class-leading safety, new Ranger utilises a whole suite
of technologies, including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), to keep its
wheels sturdily planted on the road under all conditions. Despite being an
enormously capable vehicle, the Ford Ranger is also fitted with
technologies such as satellite navigation and Bluetooth® voice control,
more commonly found on premium or luxury cars.
Building on Ranger's long-standing heritage of capability, the all-new
model extends Ford's credibility further, with selected European versions
achieving a best-in-class towing capacity of 3350 kg. Ranger models fitted
with the 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine also have an
outstanding payload capacity of up to 1333 kg.
New from the ground up - with everything changed except its name - new
Ranger is the first commercial vehicle to be built under the One Ford
strategy as part of a global product programme, bringing together the full
engineering expertise of Ford around the world.
Designed and developed in Australia, Ranger will be offered as a complete
family of compact pick-ups with three different cab body styles, 4x2 and
4x4 drive trains, two ride heights and up to five series choices to suit
every pocket and market. It will be produced in Thailand, South Africa and
Argentina for more than 180 markets worldwide.
"From the introduction of the Ranger brand to Europe in 1997, the Ford
Ranger has been a major player in the European pick-up segment," said Jesus
Alonso, Ford of Europe's Director for Commercial Vehicle Marketing, Sales
and Service. "This all-new global model offers high-level technologies and
impressive efficiency and safety. We are starting a new chapter in the
Ranger success story."

2012 Chevrolet Silverado
Chevrolet Silverado bolsters its position as the segment's most capable and
diverse lineup with enhancements for 2012 that improve appearance, comfort
New front-end designs, available heated/cooled seats (LTZ models) and a
special White Diamond Edition enhance appearance and comfort, and a new
navigation radio delivers on connectivity. It offers an updated screen and
integrated hard drive that eliminates the need for discs with map data.
Chevrolet Silverado also offers segment-exclusive OnStar and SiriusXM
satellite radio, as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity - and a
dealer-installed Wi-Fi system.
With the exception of Hybrid models, all Chevrolet Silverado 1500s now
feature Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist as part of the
StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, enhancing performance
under a variety of driving and trailering conditions.
"Silverado's dependable V-8 performance, highly competitive fuel economy,
and broad range of models continue to have a strong appeal to truck
customers, and Silverado sales were up 7 percent through July of this
year," said Maria Rohrer, Chevrolet Truck marketing director. "The changes
for 2012 enhance the rugged and capable Silverado with a fresh, updated
design and available navigation radio and Wi-Fi systems that can make
driving more convenient and enjoyable."
The new and revised design for 2012 includes a chrome mesh grille matched
with either a chrome surround on LS and LT models or a body-color surround
on LTZ. LS and LT models now feature a silver-painted lower bumper fascia
that is more aerodynamic on 2WD models without tow hooks, and a new 20-inch
chrome-clad aluminum wheel.

2011 san diego international auto show. Usually the Silverado is not a car
that catches much of an attention, but the ZR2 Concept is for sure the
Silverado that never was. The most amazing thing about the concept is the
LS supercharged crate engine from GM Performance Parts that delivers a
total of 550 hp. The ZR2 concept features a custom bodywork includes carbon
fiber fender flares that stretch outward to cover the 35-inch-tall Goodyear
Wrangler off-road tires and widened stance. The carbon fiber is also used
for the front fenders, extractor-style hood, rocker extensions and
tailgate. On the exterior the concept is painted in Dune Metallic. On the
interior the concept add more carbon fiber details on the dash, along with
black leather and suede-trimmed seats with contrasting stitching to those
trail runs more comfortable. At a glance, it's clear the Silverado ZR2
concept wasn't designed to haul flowers back from the nursery. With its
widened body, tall stance and powerful LS supercharged engine, it is ready
to hit the berms, dry washes and gullies of the Baja Peninsula. The
Silverado ZR2 is based on an extended cab/short box body. The custom
bodywork includes carbon fiber fender flares that stretch outward to cover
the 35-inch-tall Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires and widened stance. Much
of the truck's body is made of carbon fiber, including the front fenders,
extractor-style hood, rocker extensions and tailgate, which features large,
debossed CHEVROLET lettering as a nod to Chevy trucks of the pas The pickup
box, which is protected with a spray-on liner, features a unique locking
storage system mounted to the extruded aluminum Cargo Management System
rails from Chevy Accessories. Many of the carbon fiber parts, including the
hood, are clear-coated, rather than painted, to show off the intricate
weave pattern of the high-tech, lightweight material. The parts that aren't
clear carbon fiber are painted Dune Metallic, a color that blends with the
desert terrain. A large, more prominent grille is also part of the package
and is a vision of what designers would like to see in a production or
accessory part. It is very functional, feeding cool air to the 550-horsepower LS supercharged
crate engine from GM Performance Parts. The combination of 20-inch BBS RD
wheels -- reminiscent of historic Chevy truck wheel -- and aggressive
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires connect to the chassis via BDS shocks and a
four-inch lift kit to help negotiate those desert trails. The new front
fascia dramatically improves approach angle and skid plates protect the
chassis. The interior features more carbon fiber details on the dash, along
with black leather and suede-trimmed seats with contrasting stitching to
those trail runs more comfortable. "There's more to this concept than meets
the eye," said Dewar. "Some of the components are being explored for
possible inclusion in upcoming models."

2012 Ford Ranger
Ford has finally unveiled the not-for-U.S. 2011 Ranger. The company has
just pulled the sheets back on its compact pickup at the Australian
International Motor Show in Sydney, and there's no mistaking the newest
Blue Oval for anything but a Ford. With its corporate three-bar nose and
heavily arched fender openings, the Ranger borrows plenty of cues from the
likes of the Edge, but throws in a payload capacity of around 3,300 pounds
and engine options with up to 346 pound-feet of torque. The 2011 Ranger
will debut in 180 markets with three cab choices, two-wheel and four-wheel
drive options and two ride heights.
Under the hood, the most potent engine available will be a stout 3.5-liter
Duratorq turbocharged five-cylinder
diesel with 200 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of
twist, though the company says that there will be a choice of a total of
three powerplant options, including one gasoline mill. No matter what
engine buyers choose, Ford is serving up six-speed manual and automatic
transmissions to handle shifting detail. Hit the jump to check out the full
