I was surprised at how quiet and peppy it was. Even though the 0-60 times aren't necessarily super impressive, it has low-end torque to give you power around town.
Overall, very fun, and very excited for the future!

De Nissan LEAF is een jaar lang het middelpunt van de NEMO-tentoonstelling 'Iedereen elektrisch'. Het was wel even spannend toen de LEAF naar binnen werd gehesen, het LEAF team was aanwezig om verslag te doen van de operatie.

La Nissan Leaf, c'est la première voiture 100 % électrique qui possède à la fois une vocation mondiale, mais aussi et même surtout un objectif grand public. En France, d'ici la fin de l'année il y aura 1.400 bornes de recharge réparties dans les 25 plus grandes villes de France et les principaux axes routiers !
A regarder la Leaf de profil, on croirait voir une Mégane. Surtout avec la découpe des vitres latérales... Mais que les amateurs de design un peu moins conventionnels se rassurent, la petite Nissan sait aussi se montrer un futuriste avec ses lignes charmantes et ses optiques à l'avant acérées et rebondies. A l'arrière, la Leaf est toute en rondeur. Les bandeaux de feux sont parfaitement intégrés du becquet jusqu'au bas du coffre et soulignent une silhouette atypique et réussie.
A bord, le style est aussi futuriste. Bien aidée par un habitacle très lumineux, la planche de bord est claire. Aucun débordement technologique et sa traditionnelle profusion de boutons. Ici tout est réalisé avec simplicité, goût et qualité. L'équipement est haut de gamme avec le GPS et la caméra de recul
Avec son empattement de 2,70 m, la Leaf possède une excellente habilité tant pour les passagers avant que pour les places arrières Disons le tout de suite, les performances de la Leaf redonne foi en l'électrique. L'autonomie annoncée est conséquente : 160 km. 115 km seulement en revanche quand la climatisation est branchée. Largement suffisant pour la plupart des usagers urbains. La vitesse maximale de 144 km/h est très honorable. Et la conduite de la Leaf s'avère très agréable. Reste le problème de la recharge. Si le réseau publique est loin d'être encore en place, il faut s'équiper chez soi.... Et patienter 8 heures pour obtenir la recharge complète de son automobile...
En France, le tarif devrait s'établir autour des 30 000 euros, bonus écologique compris. C'est donc à priori un marché de niche pour Nissan. L'électrique, malgré toutes ses promesses reste très peu accessible. Comme quoi, rouler écolo est encore un luxe.

Nissan Leaf VSP Vechicle Sound for Pedestrians
http://www.leafownersgroup.com In developing the sound system, Nissan studied behavioral research of the visually impaired and worked with cognitive and acoustic psychologists. After looking at applied original technology developed to reduce vehicle noise and conducting tests in Japan and abroad, the Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians system was created.
The sine-wave sound system sweeps from 2.5kHz at the high end to a low of 600Hz, an easily audible range across age groups. Nissan worked to avoid a sound range that would add unnecessary noise to the environment (around 1,000Hz).
Depending on the speed and status (accelerating or decelerating) of Nissan LEAF, the sound system will make sweeping, high-low sounds. For instance, when Nissan LEAF is started, the sound will be louder, so a visually impaired person would be aware that a nearby car was beginning operations. And when a car is in reverse, the system will generate an intermittent sound. The sound system ceases operation when Nissan LEAF tops 30km/h and enters a sound range where regular road noise is high. It engages again as Nissan LEAF slows to under 25km/h.
The system is controlled through a computer and synthesizer in the dash panel, and the sound is delivered through a speaker in the engine compartment. A switch inside the vehicle can turn off sounds temporarily. The system automatically resets to "On" at the next ignition cycle.

This is my drive of the Nissan LEAF all electric car around the block of the Nissan Head Quarters in Franklin, TN at the final Electric Drive Tour destination. I ended up after resetting the KW/Mile status before the trip, with 4.4 K/M on the display driving the car as I would my Camry Hybrid.
