Corowa Autofest 2010 - 1000hp Torana splits balancer on the dyno
This Torana is a pretty mean bit of gear, with a Vortech YSi hanging off the side of a 434cube small block chev. It was looking promising to spin up some huge numbers on the Dyno when the balancer split. Although there was some concern the crank might have snapped the snout off, it was later confirmed that it was just the balancer that broke.
2000hp Torana Wins Horsepower Heroes
Jake Edwards goes back to back at Summernats 26 with another win in horsepower Heroes with
1666rwhp (and equates to over 2000hp at the flywheel). The car runs a 496ci
big block with a massive 106mm Garrett turbo with EFI and methanol. It has run 7.88 at
179mph on the quarter, so it's not just a Dyno queen.
Check out how much Exhaust energy it
produces at the end of the video where it blew my second camera over even
though it was at least 8 feet away.
Twin Turbo LS1-Powered HK Monaro on Dyno
Rodney Ritchie used to run a serious procharger blow-through set-up on his
HG Monaro but he's ripped that out and fitted a 406ci LS1 with twin T04Z turbos. It doesn't run alot of Boost but it sure makes enough power. It won
the Dyno at Winton's
Performance Car Mania with 731rwhp. Rodney now plans to finish things off
with an Intercooler and pump
up the Boost for even more power,
and possibly have a crack at Modified Street Blown in the APSA series.
Summernats 23 - Day 2 -Thursday
Summernats was strangely quiet today for a Thursday, but there's a whole
bunch of killer cars around and more blowers than you can imagine. here's
just a small portion of some of the cars going through scrutineering and
some cruising. sorry, I didn't get to the judging hall today.
Better update tomorrow.
Summernats23 - CMEFRY goes up in flames
Can you imagine a more Apt numberplate for this car? CMEFRY (See Me Fry)
goes up in flames at the end of a massive smokefest. Grab the next issue of
Street Machine magazine to see some amazing pictures by Adam Morrissey from
R.I.P. INOCNT Torana
Simon Kryger's INOCNT Torana has been a solid Pro Street performer at
Sydney Dragway and other tracks for many years. Simon sold the car just
last footage was shot and two weeks later the car was destroyed in a
traffic accident when it was stuck from behind at high speed by another
vehicle. Unfortunately the iconic Torana was destroyed, but the driver
wasn't seriously injurred. Rest in Peace INOCNT.
Link to pics of car after accident (note, I didn't take these images and
make no claims to ownership of them):
Jake Edwards, turbocharged Torana
Jake's single turbo Torana is legendary
in Australia. His ability to crank out big horsepower numbers from
relatively simple combinations defies belief. It's an awesome sounding car
Not sure of the specs when this video was shot because he's had several
motors, but it's a Holden V8 between 308 and 393ci with a large Holset
Two Superchargers, No Waiting for smoke!!
I used to think this car was called 24TUFF for some reason, and with 2
blowers I guess that works as well, but it's actually T4TUFF and it is
Tough with a capital T. Matt Power is the pilot of the flame throwing smoke
monster, and even though it was a killer burnout Matt finished 13th
overall, that's how tough the competition was.
Jake Edwards Torana - Summernats 21
On the Dyno at
Summernats 21. Jakes Edwards is probably Australia's foremost authority on
blow through carby set-ups. Here's his own personal car running over 1000hp
at the tyres with a single carb and no Intercooler although it does run on
mehtanol. The engine is a 393cube Holden V8 and it runs a single Holset turbo.
SUBTLE Wins Pro Street Blown at the Street Machine Nationals
It may be SUBTLE by name but Jeremy Callaghan's twin turbo Torana is anything but subtle. Even though
it's not the quickest car in the class the Torana swept all before it
during the Chicago Shootout in Pro Street Blown at the Street Machine
Nationals and then defeeated the Perko Torana in the finals. A solid win
from a very cool looking car
Corowa Autofest - Six Cylinder drag final
High tech versus old school in the final of the six cylinder class at
Corowa. We talk briefly to both owners before they head to the startline.
With the EL XR6 Falcon boasting almost double the horsepower of the Torana, it
should have been no contest but the result was closer than anyone could
SUBTLE Twin Turbo Torana Run Sixes
When we first saw SUBTLE it was wearing two high mount turbos on a small block Chev. It was plenty fast
but the owner Jeremy Callaghan wanted more. So now the turbos are mounted lower and there a Dandy Engines
built 622ci big block up front. Oh yeah - it's fast.
World's Biggest Burnout Fire!
Justen Brown absolutely torches his Holden ute at Mallanats with one of the
biggest fire shows we've seen.
And then he came out in the finals and do it all again.
Perry Bullivant's Twin Turbo Torana
At Winton last year we saw Perry Bullivant decimate the competition in the
Powerskid category. But back then he was running 434 cubes and a Vortech
Now he's packing something really special and although it was brand new and
just running 10psi Boost, Perry's
new 406ci twin turbo combination had
everyone talking. It looks great and sounds awesome and it makes some power
as well and with 650rwhp it has to be making around 850hp at the crank.
Imagine what it's going to do when he pumps 20psi Boost into it?
