Corowa Autofest 2010 - 1000hp Torana splits balancer on the dyno
This Torana is a pretty mean bit of gear, with a Vortech YSi hanging off the side of a 434cube small block chev. It was looking promising to spin up some huge numbers on the Dyno when the balancer split. Although there was some concern the crank might have snapped the snout off, it was later confirmed that it was just the balancer that broke.
Twin Turbo LS1-Powered HK Monaro on Dyno
Rodney Ritchie used to run a serious procharger blow-through set-up on his
HG Monaro but he's ripped that out and fitted a 406ci LS1 with twin T04Z turbos. It doesn't run alot of Boost but it sure makes enough power. It won
the Dyno at Winton's
Performance Car Mania with 731rwhp. Rodney now plans to finish things off
with an Intercooler and pump
up the Boost for even more power,
and possibly have a crack at Modified Street Blown in the APSA series.
Corowa Autofest 2010
Here's an idea of what Corowa Autofest was like with Benny giving us a
quick run down.
Final figures were 169 entrants and a whopping 13,000 spectators, despite
the rain on Saturday.
There will be a two day drag event and show 'n' shine held over the ANZAC
day weekend, but racing doesn't start until late on Sunday so you can still
go pay your respects.
Jake Edwards, turbocharged Torana
Jake's single turbo Torana is legendary
in Australia. His ability to crank out big horsepower numbers from
relatively simple combinations defies belief. It's an awesome sounding car
Not sure of the specs when this video was shot because he's had several
motors, but it's a Holden V8 between 308 and 393ci with a large Holset
SMOKEU - Procharged Big Block Holden on Dyno
Block your ears folks because this blown big block will blow your ear drums
out. There's a 540 cube big block under the bonnet and an F3R Procharger
with a blow through carb set-up. Usually it make around 900hp at the tyres
but they had trouble getting the power to the rollers at Performance Car
Corowa Autofest 2010 - CRITTA burnout
Packing a blown big block Chev this isn't your average station wagon. I
reckon Steve would have been right up there in the results, but who knows
with burnout comps, it's always hard to pick.
PANNIC - A very fast VL Turbo
No doubt you've seen the VL turbo crash,
well this ISN'T the same car.
For my American viewers the VL Commodore turbo runs a 3-litre straight six with a single turbo and EFI. As standard they were
reasonably fast (think Buick GN) but with some mods these cars are
blisteringly fast. Check out the low MPH attached to the low 9sec quarter
mile time. This car has much more in it.
Torana Powerskids at Performance Car Mania 2010
There was a great variety of rides at Winton's Performance Car Mania but
there's no denying a strong Torana presence at the event. Just check out
how many were smoking it up in the powerskids!
Perry Bullivant, with the dark green Torana and black bonnet, won the
Powerskids after a stout effort on sunday.
Crazy Fast Torana's at Corowa Drags
The lastest dragfest at Corowa Airport saw the Torana's ruling the roost
with almost half the field being of the Holden Torana variety. Here's a
quick run down of the quickest toranas from the day.
They are Perry Bullivant with the Green LX (Blown Chev Sml), Mick Brody
with the Black LJ (NA Chev Sml) and White LX (Nos Chev Big), Justin
Robinson (NA Chev sml) with the Orange LX, Matt "Russian" Filipenko with
the Red LJ (No2 Chev sml) and Mick Smith with the Yellow LH (No2 Holden
Summernats 23 - EASTY
How's this for a tyre shredding burnout? Glenn Eastwood leans on his Torana
so hard that the tyres want to leave along with the coolant.
Here's a video clip I created for Street Machine magazine. It was taken at
Summernats 19, an Australian Street Machine show
The car is a twin turbocharged
LS1powered HSV R8 Clubsport (based off the Holden Commodore platform) that
makes around 1200-1300hp at the rear wheels. On this particular run it
popped out an injector o-ring and sprayed the engine bay with fuel. You can
imagine what happens next.
Perry Bullivant's Twin Turbo Torana
At Winton last year we saw Perry Bullivant decimate the competition in the
Powerskid category. But back then he was running 434 cubes and a Vortech
Now he's packing something really special and although it was brand new and
just running 10psi Boost, Perry's
new 406ci twin turbo combination had
everyone talking. It looks great and sounds awesome and it makes some power
as well and with 650rwhp it has to be making around 850hp at the crank.
Imagine what it's going to do when he pumps 20psi Boost into it?
Corowa Autofest 2010 - Blown VL burnout
Adam Mutimer's been punting this VL around for a few years but hasn't had
much luck in regards to engines. His run of bad luck continued with the
blown Holden engine throwing a couple rods (EDIT - turns out it didn't
throw the rods, just a fuel issue) at Corowa, according to the announcers.
