Corowa Autofest 2010 - 1000hp Torana splits balancer on the dyno
This Torana is a pretty mean bit of gear, with a Vortech YSi hanging off the side of a 434cube small block chev. It was looking promising to spin up some huge numbers on the Dyno when the balancer split. Although there was some concern the crank might have snapped the snout off, it was later confirmed that it was just the balancer that broke.
Summernats 23 - Day 2 -Thursday
Summernats was strangely quiet today for a Thursday, but there's a whole
bunch of killer cars around and more blowers than you can imagine. here's
just a small portion of some of the cars going through scrutineering and
some cruising. sorry, I didn't get to the judging hall today.
Better update tomorrow.
PANNIC - A very fast VL Turbo
No doubt you've seen the VL turbo crash,
well this ISN'T the same car.
For my American viewers the VL Commodore turbo runs a 3-litre straight six with a single turbo and EFI. As standard they were
reasonably fast (think Buick GN) but with some mods these cars are
blisteringly fast. Check out the low MPH attached to the low 9sec quarter
mile time. This car has much more in it.
Jake Edwards Torana - Summernats 21
On the Dyno at
Summernats 21. Jakes Edwards is probably Australia's foremost authority on
blow through carby set-ups. Here's his own personal car running over 1000hp
at the tyres with a single carb and no Intercooler although it does run on
mehtanol. The engine is a 393cube Holden V8 and it runs a single Holset turbo.
Corowa Autofest 2010
Here's an idea of what Corowa Autofest was like with Benny giving us a
quick run down.
Final figures were 169 entrants and a whopping 13,000 spectators, despite
the rain on Saturday.
There will be a two day drag event and show 'n' shine held over the ANZAC
day weekend, but racing doesn't start until late on Sunday so you can still
go pay your respects.
Torana Powerskids at Performance Car Mania 2010
There was a great variety of rides at Winton's Performance Car Mania but
there's no denying a strong Torana presence at the event. Just check out
how many were smoking it up in the powerskids!
Perry Bullivant, with the dark green Torana and black bonnet, won the
Powerskids after a stout effort on sunday.
BEST. POWERSKID. EVER.
I've seen some crazy powerskid action in my time but this Torana takes the
cake. With a big hit of Nitrous and a
heavy right foot this guy smokes the full length of the track in and aesome
display of skill and power.
If you've got a better powerskid then send me a video response.
Corowa Autofest - Six Cylinder drag final
High tech versus old school in the final of the six cylinder class at
Corowa. We talk briefly to both owners before they head to the startline.
With the EL XR6 Falcon boasting almost double the horsepower of the Torana, it
should have been no contest but the result was closer than anyone could
SMOKEU - Procharged Big Block Holden on Dyno
Block your ears folks because this blown big block will blow your ear drums
out. There's a 540 cube big block under the bonnet and an F3R Procharger
with a blow through carb set-up. Usually it make around 900hp at the tyres
but they had trouble getting the power to the rollers at Performance Car
Summernats 23 - BLWNLJ
Since last year Brad Murname has replaced his under-bonnet style Weiand
blower with a big & tall 6/71 and fixed the fuel leakage issues (fuel
spraying from the standard LJ fuel cap during doughnuts) by fitting a fuel
cell. He was looking strong in the burnouts but got himself trapped against
the guardrail and that destroyed any chance of burnout Victory at
Summernats. Better luck next year dude.
Corowa Autofest - Outlaw class final
I'm not sure what the rules were for the outlaw class but it was Mick Brody
again with his 555cube Torana versus Chris with his Supercharged HQ.
Unfortunately Chris was fairly outgunned with the big block Torana taking a
relatively easy win.
Blown Big Block HB Torana
The infamous SPUD Torana. How much motor can you stick in a little car
without it killing you? This crazy little machine tries to twist itself in
two everytime it leaves the line.
