Viper Racing League - 8/29/09 - Texas World Speedway
This is my first race with the Viper Racing League (Viper Days/NARRA) at Texas World Speedway on Saturday 8/29/09. We have a rolling start with a pace car and ran 12 laps for about 30 minutes. I edited this video from the 30 minute race down to 10 minutes so it would fit within the YouTube! time limit. We also had a 26 lap inverted race on Sunday for about 50 minutes but my camera messed up and I only got the first lap and it shut off. Anyway, I came in 3rd place in both races behind the World Challenge competition coupes which are much faster and have better drivers. I was extremely happy to come in 3rd. In this race, I started out in the 3rd row inside and managed to get behind Tom in his white/blue comp coupe. I chased him most of the race just waiting for a mistake. He began losing his tires and I managed to stick my nose in on turn 13. He was gracious and let me by but could have easily kept me from passing. We were pretty even the whole race and it was tons of fun. Thanks, Tom! The next race is Roebling Road in Georgia and then off to Daytona on the Rolex Series course.

Texas World Speedway - The Oval
Texas World Speedway was a NASCAR oval track, but is no longer used for that. Unfortunately there was an metal to metal accident during our session. We got to drive on the oval to drive around the accident and get back to the paddock. The condition is not so hot. It is also unnerving to drive the bank at such slow speeds. As you can hear I was properly nervous while heading around the bank

Fast hands avoid a Lotus Exige spin at Texas World Speedway (TWS)
An aggressive entry into Turn 8 puts me off-line after correcting the oversteer, and I consequently early apex Turn 9 at about 75 mph. I think this list here covers all the mistakes that led up to the near spin: 1. I allow myself to be distracted by my instructor describing something. 2. I'm aggressive on Turn 8 with some entry oversteer. 3. After correcting, I fail to notice that I'm out of position: I'm to the right of my usual line. 4. Still distracted, I start turning in using my usual reference point instead of adjusting and braking for being closer to the apex. 5. This makes me miss the apex by about 3 or 4 feet, and on a trajectory that will make me leave the track around where the oval track intersects. Realizing this, I add more steering instead of reducing speed. 6. Mayhem ensues. It was quite a challenge to keep the car from spinning. As if it weren't enough that I didn't have any throttle for the duration, my foot actually found the brake halfway through, which made the rear even lighter. However, the braking did also slow the car down, allowing me to finally collect it at about 35mph. That blue bendy thing flailing around in the bottom left of the screen is my leg trying to find the gas pedal.
