Isuzu Duramax explodes at the racetrack
700HP truck. Absolute carnage. Not surprising though. Busted chunks of
crankshaft, rods, & pistons all over the track. They aren't built to take
this kind of abuse like the real diesels are. Maybe someday GM will get a
decent diesel engine in their trucks... Who knows.
Diesel Power Challenge 2011- Duramax Blows its Engine
After a few failed attempts at spooling the turbos before the run started he gave it one last
try. You can hear them start to spool, then boom! The oil cap ended up
shooting off, spraying oil everywhere.

PRO MOD DIESEL PULLERS 1500HP, ENGINE BLOWS
Wildcoyote34's comment of driveline failure causing engine overspeed is
Engine lost a front driveline part causing driveline failure resulting in
load to no load on the engine sending the engine into orbit. As I remember
there was Rod caps laying on the ground after this truck pulled.

MTU 8V 396 diesel engine catastrophic failure
This is a MTU 8V 396 diesel engine blowing up. This video was shown during
a rebuild class I just took. Not really sure what happened. My guess would
be that it spun a bearing, causing a piston to try and sieze, in turn
throwing a rod. Pay attention at 24 seconds to the engine torquing hard to
the left and the terrible sound it makes until it lets go...
Ever thrown a rod? how about a block?
HUGE engine explosion at a tractor pull event. the block is literally
blown out of the engine bay and lands onto the ground next to the tractor.
as far as catastrophic faliure goes, this is as bad as it gets.
