Tucked away in a small industrial park in Oxnard, CA sits JCG Restorations & Customs, a moderately sized shop that has built some of the best performing pro-touring cars that we've ever driven. Now generally we don't focus in on shops, however when the owners of three of our best test cars start dropping names, we tend to listen. Originally we descended on JCG to drive Blu Balz, a stunning 1968 Camaro owned by one Karl Dunn. However since Mother Nature decided to water the Earth that day, we put our original plans on hold and got shop owner Cris Gonzalez to give us the in's and out's of what it takes to make a stellar pro-touring car.
1968 Camaro - Blu Balz 2.0 - /BIG MUSCLE

It was over a year ago that we first ventured down to JCG Restorations and
Customs in Oxnard, California. There we were introduced to owner Chris
Gonzalas and a wicked 1968 Chevrolet Camaro that was owned by a
gentleman named Karl Dunn, and aptly named, Blu Balz. Mother nature
unfortunately didn't let us play that day, and because of that we vowed to
give Mr. Balz another day on camera.
Satan's Rat-Rod: 1931 Ford - /BIG MUSCLE

The engine is out of a 1952 Diamond-Reo tractor and makes 1,640 lb-ft of
torque. The chassis is pieced together from old light poles from the City
of Hollywood. The body... that's from a 1931 Ford. Meet Gretchen, one of
the coolest rat-rods we've ever seen and a ride that turns heads wherever
it goes. This ain't no hybrid, instead it's a black smoke belching,
gasoline guzzling, animal of a car that's not only amazing to look at, but
with some cool hidden engineering, has the ability to surprise even the
most hardened of motor-heads.
1970 Chevelle: Refined Muscle - /BIG MUSCLE
When it comes to muscle cars technology can be a double-edged sword. On the
one hand it can enhance all aspects of a vehicles drivability, but on the
other, it can strip the soul from a car in no time flat. Few people have
been able to blend new technology, luxury and speed into a package that
just flat-out works. Mark Bachman however is the exception. With a stunning
interior, loads of grunt and just about every modern convenience you could
ask for, his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle has managed to blur the lines between
old and new.
Mitch Allread: Don't Call it a Rat Rod... - /BIG MUSCLE
It packs a 400 hp diesel out of a Ford F-350, a Dana 80 rear-end, and a
look and feel that would make Max Rockatansky feel right at home. This is
Mitch Allread's custom fabricated creation and it is, without a doubt, one
of the coolest things on the road today. This is a machine that transcends
the traditional hot rod formula by breaking down borders and setting its

I thought you'd like a look at this awesome 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. This beast is powered by
a ZZ502 Big-block crate engine, that's pushing out 502 HP and 567 LbFt of
Torque. All that power is being funneled through a Centerforce clutch, to
a Borg Warner T10 four-speed, and then back to a 12 bolt rear with 3.55
gears. This car has all the performance you need and then some. It's also a
beautifully restored car, from the ultra slick black exterior with SS trim,
to the completely restored houndstooth interior. It's also equipped with
front disc brakes, Eagle Alloy wheels, and BF Goodrich ZR speed rated
tires. This car goes, turns, and stops amazingly well. I hope you find it

1927 Ford: Double-Trouble -- /BIG MUSCLE

In the world of hot-rodding there are few cars that are going to leave as
big an impression as this - the 1927 Ford Model T custom simply known as
"Double-Trouble". It rides on a custom-built tube chassis that's fabricated
from 1.5-inch tube. Is powered by two 4.6-liter modular V8s from Ford with
four, count 'em, FOUR Superchargers for
an approximate power output of around 1,200 hp. It also utilizes the
rear-end (inboard disc brakes and all) from an early Jaguar. It's a rolling
a Hot Wheels car and a masterpiece of engineering that is sure to make all
your naughty bits tingle.

Each and every muscle car enthusiast has that one experience that has
helped define the way in which they view the automobile. For Northern
California's John Cross that experience came by way of riding in the back
of his cousins 1970 440 6-Pack Plymouth 'Cuda when he was a kid. It was a
car that provided him with memories, stories and of course, a goal - that
being, to one day own the very car which got his engine running all those
years ago. It's now 2012, 42 years after that first faithful ride in the
very 'Cuda you're about to see. This time however it resides in John's
garage, not his cousins, which can mean only one thing... Sometimes dreams

CTS-V Powered '68 Camaro Drop Top - /BIG MUSCLE
Finding the right balance between a well tuned street car and a flat-out
performance car is no easy task. However that didn't stop Southern
California resident Bob Hall from building what may just be one of the best
vehicles we've ever driven. He started with an ultra clean 1968 Camaro SS convertible, fitted it
with a supercharged LSA mill from a 2009 Cadillac CTS-V, reworked the
entire drivetrain and suspension, and in the end, created a car that's 44
years old but feels like it rolled out of the factory yesterday.
