1991 Bonneville deferred maintenance
Did some routine maintenance today.
Still have to investigate an SES light and an ABS light.
The air conditioning system has been rebuilt at some point so with luck it
will work again with some freon.

Engine Coolant Thermostat replacement 3800 V6 engine - Pontiac Bonneville P0128 OBD II Code repair
My check engine light came on in the fall of '09 so I had the code pulled.
It was P0128- Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat
Regulating Temperature). I decided to check and replace the thermostat. It
was the problem and has been fine since. Overall the job took about 45 min
to 1 hour including draining, warming the engine, and refilling the cooling
system. It was a pretty easy fix. This problem causes the engine to run too
cool because the thermostat is stuck open, causing more coolant to go
through the radiator than necessary. Ignoring this problem causes the fuel
mixture to be too rich, which will cause poor fuel economy.

All wagons from 71-76 rode on the C-body chassis (127 inch) wheelbase...

Pontiac Safari (Catalina, Bonneville, and Grand Ville wagons were all
Safari's) - (Grand Ville was called Grand Safari), Olds Custom Cruiser
(with 88 and 98 interiors), and Buick Estate (LeSabre and Electra series
interiors). In 1977 the wagons moved to the B-body chassis and rode on
the 116" wheelbase until 1996 when they were discontinued

1986 Pontiac Parisienne The Alabama "Cheviac"
I purchased this car for $500 in October 2011 from an elderly lady at
church. The car had been sitting under their carport untouched for several
years, it is unknown just how long it had actually sat, but I knew for sure
it was sitting more than two years.
I installed a new battery, poured 5 gallons of fresh gas into the tank and
to my surprise it fired up as if you had just run it last month. I paid
$500 for the car, and since I have owned it I have done a little work to
bring it back up to speed.
I had to replace the water pump during the winter of 2011 as the bearing
was worn thus making noise, I replaced at the same time both upper and
lower radiator hoses as they were still the original GM hoses.
I have replaced all four shocks, recharged the A/C, and removed the smog
pump, as well as gutted the Catalytic converter.
I replaced all four tires witch were badly dry rotted, as well as cleaning,
repacking the front wheel bearings, and replacing the grease seals. I have
had to replace the choke thermostat witch started acting up in the spring
of this year.
This old car runs great and drives like a dream, it would be nice if you
could buy new cars like these today. Even with it's carburated V8 305 it
still averages 20-22 mpg for my commute back and fourth to work, and 24-26
on the highway.
We call this "The Alabama Cheviac" since it is a Pontiac with a Chevrolet
engine. It has the 305 V8, coupled to the 700 R-4 Transmission. Great car,
I enjoy it almost as much as my Cummins powered 71 Dodge.
Is a Cummins conversion in the Cheviac's future...... Only time will
