Modern crossover vehicles like the Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan are
family cars first and foremost, but still retain some of the looks and
off-road capabilities of a 4x4. The Toyota RAV4 is the other way around;
it's a 4x4 firstly, but Toyota has adapted it to compete with the popular
breed of crossovers.

2014 Toyota RAV4 EV
After months of speculation and teasing, Toyota has officially unveiled the
RAV4 EV prototype.
Jointly created with Tesla, as part of their $50 million dollar agreement
to collaborate on EV technology, the RAV4 features a lithium metal oxide
battery which has an energy storage capacity "in the mid-30 kwh range." The
company declined to release detailed information, but the Tesla-sourced
electric motor (presumably the 215 kW one from the Roadster) will enable
the crossover to travel up to 100 miles (161 km) on a single charge.
Furthermore, Toyota stated the EV weighs 220 pounds (100 kg) more than the
RAV4 V6 and will accelerate from 0-60 mph almost as fast.
As part of the conversion, Toyota engineers were forced to modify the
suspension, install a new steering system, and relocate several major
components to optimize weight distribution.

Driving the Toyota RAV4-EV to and from Santa Monica on one charge, with an
intermediate stop at Toyota Torrance and sneering at Toyota's commitment to
fuel cell follies.
Originally parked in the Toyota booth, NOGASO was offered as an exhibit,
the ONLY plug-in that Toyota has to display. Instead, the Toyota jerks
showed prius, which get all their energy, ultimately, from the GAS PUMP and
Also some sneering at the crummy "volt-hoax", a miscreant Frankenstein car
pumped by GM as a "green halo" model. But with such a small,
inconsequential battery, most people will just skip plugging it in and
drive on oil, which is what GM wants them to do.
So spend $40K for a junk VOLT-hoax so that you can get 30 mpg and brag to
the neighbors about how you liked getting ripped-off by GM.
At the end of the day, over 113 miles range on the RAV4-EV, a 9-year-old
battery pack still the best EV ever made -- even if Toyota is too stupid to
allow it to be displayed.
