Fix It Right! - Fuel Injection System Replacement (S1E6)
Demonstrated on a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L V6 Vortec 2WD.
In this video, we demonstrate the process of removing the stock fuel injection assembly, and install an upgraded assembly that converts the vehicle to full multiport fuel injection. This is a fairly straightforward repair to resolve a common issue with the older CFI and "upgraded" CSFI systems used on GM's Vortec engines: sticking poppet valves that dump raw fuel.
The stock fuel injection system for 4.3L V6 and 5.7L V8 GM Vortec engines consists of a central injector housing containing either a sequencer (for the older CFI design) or six injector solenoids (for the newer CSFI redesign) and six tubes with a poppet valve on each tube end, each of which are inserted into the intake manifold. The poppet valves are subject to clogging from microscopic debris in the fuel, varnish buildup, etc. Once one or more of them clog, the engine starts to run rough and mileage starts to nosedive. Since the engine control computer will detect a rich condition due to excess fuel consumption and will begin leaning out the engine to compensate, watch for long fuel trims moving strongly negative if checking the vehicle with a scanner capable of reading OBD-II datastreams.
The replacement fuel injection assembly is a new design, and instead of using poppet valves and a single injector and sequencer manifold or central bank of injectors, the new assembly replaces each poppet valve with a miniature injector on each tube end. This design has a number of advantages: improved throttle response since there's no transit time for pressurized fuel to travel down the individual injector lines, improved fuel economy (not the least of which is from not constantly dripping fuel), increased horsepower due to improved fuel delivery efficiency, and increased reliability since the injectors have a more forceful open/close action. Generally speaking, customers that have had this procedure performed had positive opinions on their vehicle's post-repair performance.

Classic Custom Vans
If you love classic custom vans, check out these vans I saw at a car show. It's the first time I've ever seen a custom classic van section at a car show. Up for sale is a 1995 Chevy Astro Mark III Conversion. It runs good. It has 137,600 miles on it.
A/C does not work, there is a leak somewhere in the system, the compressor is not locked up. All you have to do is find the leak and fix it, and the A/C will work just fine. Price is negotiable.
We have owned this van for over 8 years now.
Here is a list of some of the things done to it:
New windshield
New front tires, with new idler arms and alignment.
New premium spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
Fuel pump was replaced awhile back.
Fuel filter was replaced about a year ago.
K&N air filter
Oil changed about a month ago.
Battery was replaced a little over two years ago.
LR brake drum was replaced along with the brake shoes on both rear wheels. Front pads are fine.
Muffler and tail pipe were replaced a few years ago.
Fuel Induction service performed about a year ago.
Driver side window motor replaced a few years ago.
Pass. side window motor replaced about a year ago.
Driver side window switch replaced about a year ago.
Ext. Pass. side door handle was replaced a few years ago.
Comes with a receiver hitch, 4-way flat plug, draw bar, 1-7/8" & 2" balls.
TV powers on, but the VCR won't play. All exterior lights work, 1 interior reading light doesn't. Front Pass. seat has a piece of leather missing, the arm rest and seat on the driver side has a tear in it. A seat cover would cover it up just fine.
Exterior has some cosmetic defects, dents and bad paint on the hood (from the hail storm awhile back) and a hole from the trailer in the left rear quarter panel. The paint is still there, so you don't have to worry about the hole rusting. The Pass. side running board has paint scraped off, what you see is not rust, but the fiberglass. This van is rust free.
