Ypsilanti,Orphan Car show is big thing every year. In this segment they are talking about the importance the AMC line was. Its said the Matador was a fancy car and I do remember seeing it race NASCAR, once.

While Penske Racing is currently one of the leading NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series operations with drivers Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch, team owner Roger Penske has a long heritage in NASCAR. Penske won in his only NASCAR race as a driver, in 1963, and he also won NEXTEL Cup Series races with drivers Mark Donohue and Bobby Allison. After leaving stock cars in 1977, Penske Racing returned for two races in 1980, with Rusty Wallace finishing second in his first NASCAR race. That set the foundation for Penske South and Wallace joining NASCAR in 1991.

Orphan Car Show -19.Corvair
The Corvair was built right here in Ypsilanti. Some of the 1st ones were called "slot cars" (550 made and only 4 left today) because of the slots in the lower grill. Alledgly to vent the horn noise. The slots always filled with mud and dirt and was soon de-slotted.
