1967 Formula S Plymouth Barracuda - Redefining Mopar muscle cars
This black 1967 Formula S Plymouth Barracuda is a driver's car and owner John Rocks proudly displays it at local car shows. John refers to his work as a restofication, meaning that it may not be a number 1 show car but it looks almost as good as new. John is an expert in Mopars and ells the story about how he worked on Mopars as a young man and we show pictures of his original 1967 convertible Plymouth Barracuda. We also get a peak at his white 1967 Plymouth Barracuda coupe. The contrast of these two cars sitting side by side is pretty special. Hang in there and take an afternoon drive with John as he shows off the cornering performance of his black Formula S Plymouth Barracuda. The white Barracuda is not too happy about it but you can only drive one car at a time. This video includes the use of a camera jib (crane) for some incredibly smooth shots. The use of the GoPro was a learning experience as this was the first time we used it to capture some scenes of John and his car speeding around corners. This is one videographer that had to hold on tight and some of the footage was not usable as I went flying around in my seat. In 1968, the first muscle cars were moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained options. Although Plymouth already had a performance car in the GTX, designers decided to go back to the drawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. Plymouth wanted a car able to run 14-second times in the quarter mile and sell for less than US$3000. Both goals were met, and the low-cost muscle car hit the street. The 1969 model made some slight changes such as tail lights and grille, side marker lights, optional bucket seats, and new Road Runner decals. All were 383 engine cars, except for ten 426ci Hemi convertible cars. An Air Grabber option (N96 code) was introduced this year. The Plymouth Road Runner was named Motor Trend "Car of the Year" for 1969. VIN This car was previously owned by a retired Chrysler employee. He spent 31 years at Chrysler building "show cars". This car was frame on restored, assembled and painted by the same team that handled Chryslers show cars. This is a one of a Road Runner that does not come along very often. It's ready to be driven anywhere, and fast!
