Für das Audi Team heißt das: viel Arbeit. Denn der Rennbolide muss erst einmal auf Vordermann gebracht werden. Heute testen Thomas Bauch und Frank Friedmann vom Audi Sport Team den S1 in der Höhenkammer. Dabei wird die Fahrt auf über 4.000 Höhenmetern simuliert, wenn die Luft langsam knapp wird. Das geht auch an dem Audi Sport quattro S1 Pikes Peak nicht spurlos vorbei. Wir zeigen Ihnen, ob der Rennbolide den Härtetest in der Höhenkammer besteht.
Audi S1 Pikes Peak: Testfahrt auf der Rennstrecke
Nach dem Test in der Höhenkammer, darf der Audi S1 Pikes Peak jetzt richtigen Asphalt unter den Reifen spüren. Das 600 PS starke „Monster" geht mit Audi auf die Rennstrecke. Dabei drückt kein geringerer als Walter Röhrl das Gaspedal im S1 durch. Es ist der letzte Test für die zwei Legenden bevor es am 8. Juli auf dem über 4.000 Meter hohen Pikes Peak zur Sache kommt.

Pikes Peak 2011 - Tajima record FULL LAP (HD)

Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima (60 years old!!) breaks his own 2007 record 10′01″408 with this new 9′51″278 in his "Suzuki Monster Sport SX4 Hill Climb Special". He broke his record despite losing his radiator in the last phases of the race. The car spewed water from the radiator over the final 500 yards of the race.(you can clearly hear the change in the video).
Tajima overcame an overheated engine and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
"I took my car to the limit,'' Tajima said. "And it held up to everything I asked of it". Before the race, Tajima predicted he would break the course record, finish in under 10 minutes and win the final time the course would include a section of gravel.Gravel remains in fact on just under three miles of the course, from the Halfway Picnic Grounds to near Glen Cove. Race officials said the course will be completely paved for the 2012 race.

Climb - Pikes Peak Hill Climb with a Monster

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 29, 2010) -- For the fifth consecutive time, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima combined experience, skill and Falken Tires to claim overall victory in the 88th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Although he did not set a new Pikes Peak record, one day before his 60th birthday, Tajima continues to hold the current overall record for reaching the peak, beating hill climb veterans Paul Dallenbach and Rhys Millen in the Unlimited Class. He drove his new 910-hp Monster Sport Suzuki SX4 Hill Climb Special on Falken WildPeak A/T tires, the powerful new line of all-terrain, all-season tires Falken launched this past April.
Following Exhaustive tests in a Japanese wind tunnel facility, Monster's 2010 Pikes Peak race car underwent extensive aerodynamic changes to better adapt to the modified road surface on the race to the clouds, which assumed a smoother tarmac and less gravel than last year. Thinning air ascending the mountain robs most motors of their power by 30 or more percent, but the increase in horsepower over last year's race car helped push the driver forward.
Pikes Peak 2012 Clips
This is the footage I was able to capture of the 90th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event in El Paso County, Colorado. I wasn't able to record every car because I wanted my camera to last the whole day and capture a wide variety of the vehicles in the race. Sorry for any shaky camera movements, I was a little tipsy.
Camera used is a Sony DSC-HX1. The sound, video, and picture quality of this camera is superb and I highly recommend it for anyone that wants a portable, versatile camera that does a little bit of everything... without the price tag of a DSLR.
