To be honest there is a minor bit of drone at low RPMs under load. Once a downshift is done to put RPMs around 3,000 under load (uphill) then the slight drone disappears.

My drive to work everyday is pretty fun with narrow village roads and a touch of the autobahn (A62 to A6) and then to Ramstein AFB to the flightline. Amazing thing is driving relatively hard I still get 20 mpg!

BMW E46 330i Secret OBC Function - Digital RPM
Just a video to show how easy it is to access the secret OBC on a BMW E46 and to show the digital RPM readout along with my vehicle's redline in 1st gear. Instructions to access the hidden OBC functions: 1. Hold Trip Reset while turning ignition key to on position or hold when car is on 2. OBC should show "Test" 3. Use Trip Reset to select function 19.0 that unlocks all the features 3. Wait for display to show "Off" 4. Depress Trip Reset for 1/4 second and release it 5.
