Mercedes SL-Class 500 test drive review Mercedes SL500 - Autogefühl
http://www.autogefuehl.de/2014/06/14/mercedes-sl-500-testbericht-60-jahre-m ercedes-sl-und-die-suche-nach-perfektion/ Testing the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, the 2014 Mercedes SL 500. #mbcar #mbcars With its fine materials, the Mercedes SL gives you immediately a luxurious feeling. You can see, this car was perfectly finished with great attention to detail. In German cars, the clearance is always a big matter, the small gaps between two elements -- which are supposed to be exactly even. We can see this perfect symmetry here, for example. I do like the clear, elegant design lines in the front. But the media panel looks not quite up to date with its square plastic buttons. The "Cockpit Management and Data System" COMAND can be ordered with internet access. A DVD changer is also available as an option. I really don't know, why anyone would still use DVD's in a car, but nevertheless. One feature I like best, is the panoramic glass roof with adjustable lighting, called MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The transparent roof switches to light or dark at the push of a button. It had been tested in Death Valley in California and the result was, that with dimmed roof, you reduce the heat radiation by the sun about the factor twenty. How does it work? Imagine particles inside the glass that stand in a clear row and let sunshine through, as long as an electric current is induced. When I push the button, the electric current fades, the particles get all mixed up -- and prevent light and heat from shining through. This sixth generation of the SL also offers that hard roof that can be retracted into the boot using an electrohydraulic mechanism to save space, which converts the SL in a few seconds into a roadster or a coupé. In less than 20 seconds it opens or closes. The disadvantage is of course, that you have to stand still. In that case, a soft top is better -- but not that durable over the years. Feeling While driving, the first things I immediately notice is the exceptional riding comfort. You have a extremely smooth ride, no matter if you are in the Sport or Comfort mode. Actually the difference doesn't turn out to be big. I can just repeat, the suspension is maybe the most superior thing about this car and sets standards. The sportiness comes to play, when you push the throttle and circle it around the corner. You feel a little bit of rear wheel spin -- that's just super fun, and even works with stability control turned on. The electronics just allow you that little spin to have the fun and still keep being in control. However, you can also turn off the stability control to be able to spin it around more freely. The SL is powerful in accelerating and effortlessly superior across all speeds and nimble on winding roads, like here in Southern France. On the negative side, there is the indirect steering which lets it step down from the league of pure sportscars. So sportscar lovers might be annoyed by this, however, you should prefer the smooth ride of a grand GT with sporty elements. Special Features Mercedes always wants to stress its safety features, and actually, for a roadster, there are a lot of them in it. For example, we have the blind spot warner, giving you a signal when cars are approaching at the sides from behind -- erm, does that actually happen when driving this car? ;-) Furthermore, the so called Adaptive Brake firstly warns you when you are getting to close to a car -- with a visual and a sound hint. That can be practical, if you are overtaking a vehicle, turn your head shortly to take a look around and in that second the vehicle in front of you brakes hardly. In that case, the sound catches your attention 1 second earlier and you can start the braking process right away. Also, in an emergency braking situation the braking lights are flashing to warn the car behind you. And my favorite: The Active Parking Assist. It automatically manoeuvres the car into a parking space using ultrasound sensors. We will see how it works. Engines The current SL500 has a 4.7 Liter V8 under the bonnet. With its twin turbo, it reached 435 horsepower -- and Boosts you from 0 to 100 kilometres or 0 to 60 miles in 4,6 seconds. In Germany, there is also the smaller SL400 available, it recently replaced the SL350 now delivering 333 horsepower from a 3 Liter V6. If you are OK with that, you can at least save 20.000 Euros stepping down. The SL 500 however starts at 120.000 Euros in Germany, at 80.000 Pounds in the UK and at 106.000 Dollars in the US -- where you can only get the SL 550 with 429 horse power. No clue why it is called 550 although having less horsepower.

Maybach 62 Test Drive (And Ride!) with Chris Moran
http://www.SupercarNetwork.com An in-depth review of the 2005 Maybach 62 with Chris Moran Maybach was one of the world's most exquisite nameplates in the 1920s and '30s. The original company was founded by Karl Maybach — the son of Wilhelm Maybach, who developed the first Mercedes. Some people were surprised when Maybachs returned in the form of two closely related, all-new ultraluxury sedans. Each posh sedan is filled with nearly every sort of comfort and convenience feature offered in a motorcar. Ostensibly a product of DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes-Benz's parent company, the modern-day Maybach is actually considered a make of its own. Maybachs come in two sizes: the regular Type 57 and the extended-length Type 62. Each model designation indicates the car's length in meters: 5.73 for the Type 57 and 6.17 for the Type 62. Special features include electronic braking and an Airmatic Dual Control air suspension. A rearview parking-assist camera is available in the 2005 model. Standard equipment now includes Robbe & Berking beverage flutes and a handcrafted Dunhill Collection umbrella. Standard Sirius Satellite Radio includes a lifetime subscription. Only one or two Maybachs per day are built at a state-of-the-art facility in Germany. Mercedes-Benz dealers must sign separate agreements to sell them. Exterior According to the manufacturer, Maybach styling balances classic and avant-garde features. The doors, hood and fenders are made of aluminum. Maybach says a primary goal was to deliver an "entirely new definition of first class." Twelve body colors are available, and two-tone paint schemes may be specified. Bi-xenon headlights are standard. The regular-size Type 57 is 225.3 inches long overall, uses a 133.5-inch wheelbase and rides on 19-inch tires. A standard power-closing feature pulls the door shut from the first detent position. Interior As many as 100 items inside the Maybach are trimmed with exotic woods. Buyers can mix options with the immense standard-equipment list in numerous combinations. Available accessories include a luggage set, a sterling silver champagne goblet, a humidor, a golf bag and a fluffy travel rug. Buyers may choose from six Grand Nappa leather colors and three types of wood. All four standard seats are heated, and active seat ventilation is available. Occupants can luxuriate in reclining rear seats. A television with a 9.5-inch TFT flat screen includes a DVD player. Interior features also include four-zone climate control with two air-conditioning units, a refrigerated compartment, a cordless phone with two handsets and a 21-speaker Bose Dolby sound system. Each sedan also has the Tele Aid emergency communication system and the Comand integrated control system, which are available for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Under the Hood Breathing with the assistance of twin turbochargers, the 5.5-liter V-12 produces 550 horsepower and 663 pounds-feet of torque. It teams with a five-speed-automatic transmission. Maybach claims the Type 57 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Safety Ten airbags, including two adaptive front airbags, four side-impact airbags, and front and rear side curtain-type airbags, are installed.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Test Drive & Luxury Convertible Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/mercedes-benz/sl-class/2013/?id=32972 The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 has been completely redesigned and marks the 6th generation of the SL-Class. The SL550 is a roadster which is in essence a two seat convertible. The roof is 13 lbs. lighter than the previous model thanks to the use of lightweight magnesium materials. The 2013 Mercedes SL550 has an MSRP price of $103,650. The SL550 is powered by a twin turbo 4.6 liter V-8 engine that produces 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. The 7-speed automatic transmission features wheel mounted paddle shifters as well as 3 distinct driving modes: ECO, Sport, and Manual. Combined with the start-stop system the 2013 Mercedes SL550 has a fuel economy rating of 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway which is better than the previous model. The new 2013 Mercedes SL-Class features an all aluminum body that reduces the weight by over 300 lbs. compared to the outbound model. This weight reduction alone provides a huge Boost in performance. In fact with the twin-turbo V-8 engine the SL550 can rocket from 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds. That figure is pure super car territory. The exterior still holds the shape that made the SL-Class famous over 60 years ago but with modern lines. The Xenon headlights feature LED running lights which are a must for any self-respecting luxury car. The 19-inch alloy AMG wheels give the 2013 Mercedes SL550 a very aggressive look. The suspension features a ton of great technology that offers the most luxurious yet sporty ride. The active dampening shocks at each wheel adjust the dampening rate every 10 milliseconds. The result is a smooth ride with razor sharp handling. The Active Body Control System is tasked with providing a balanced ride. The body roll is limited when cornering and the SL550's ride height is reduced as speeds increase. The 2013 Mercedes SL-Class is a convertible first and foremost. The SL550 features a retractable hardtop that can open or close in less than 15 seconds. MAGIC SKY CONTROL is a trick feature that with the press of a button turns the roof from clear to opaque or vice versa. Integrated into the headrests are vents that can provide a cool blast of air on a hot sunny day. The AIRSCARF system does the opposite. Beneath each head rest vents deliver a blast of warm air so you can keep the top down even in the fall and winter. The 2013 Mercedes SL550 is one of the best convertible roadsters on the market today. With a powerful yet efficient 400+ horsepower engine and a wonderfully automatic retractable hardtop; the Mercedes has tons of wonderful attributes.
