1961 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE -- THE SPLIT GRILLE IS BACK
Redesigned Pontiacs this year brought about the split grill look once again after the 1960 model eliminated that look. The '59 was the first split grille which was a look that eventually morphed into the Pontiac beak in later years. This new design also promoted the " wide track " look that was featured in tire commercials with a cartoonish Pontiac. All Pontiac models were popular this year and started with the low-end Tempest, then Catalina, Ventura, Star Chief, and the top of the line Bonneville. Bonneville models included the Custom Safari 4 door wagon, Sport Hardtop coupe, Vista hardtop sedan, and the convertible coupe as this example is shown. A Bonneville convertible weighs3,905 lbs., and cost $3,476 new. This Pontiac has the V8, 389 cid with tri-power, ( three 4 barrels ), with - get this - 348 hp. See, this is another example of how Pontiac contributed not only to GM coffers but an iconic automotive historical footnote. Watch this Pontiac dream car. To me it's just a fantastic looking car. I believe the price tag of nearly 59 thousand also reflects the favorable collectability of this beauty. Some lucky person bought this Pontiac some time ago. Sorry. This is my Thanksgiving present to you! What a beautiful car...and a sleeper too if you just assume it's a "normal" Catalina! This is a tri-power motor, and it has a 4 speed manual transmission too! If we had only known at the time what a keeper this is...they would have had to make a lot more of these! I love those 8 lug wheels...Pontiac was ahead of the curve in supplying beautiful wheels for their cars!

1961 Pontiac Bonneville Covnertible
1961 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible for Sale in Chicago. The Bonneville remained as Pontiac's costliest and most luxurious model throughout the 1960s and was instrumental in pushing Pontiac to third place in sales from 1962 to 1970. The Bonneville differed from its lesser Catalina and Star Chief counterparts by featuring more luxurious interior trim with upgraded cloth and Morrokide vinyl or expanded Morrokide upholstery in sedans and coupes, expanded Morrokide in Safari wagons or genuine leather seating in convertibles. Bonnevilles (with the exception of Bonneville Safari Station wagons) were also (along with Star Chiefs) built on a longer wheelbase version of GM's B-Body. Also found in the Bonneville were instrument panels and door panels with walnut veneer trim, carpeted lower door panels, grab bar on passenger side of dash and courtesy lights and rear arm rest. This Bonneville Convertible has a 389 4brl, 313 horsepower engine, and a Hydramatic automatic transmission. Options on this car are power convertible top, power steering and brakes (Wonder Touch), factory AM radio with an aftermarket radio in the glove box, manual antenna, bucket seats, full set of Fisher seat belts, Heavy Duty air cleaner, E-Z-Eye glass, 8 lug wheels with radial white wall tires, back up lamps, passenger side visor mirror, rear speaker, windshield washer setup, fender mounted side view remote mirror, clock, fender skirts, ok top boot, dual Exhaust, vinyl interior, and matching Pontiac floor mats. This car runs and drives great! There is a small patched section in the convertible top, but the rear glass is still clear. Top functions properly.
