Bob Lutz's "Icons and Idiots" - Autoline After Hours 205
If it exists in the automotive world, he's got an opinion on it. And, he
won't be afraid to tell you what he really thinks. The man of the hour is
the cigar-chomping, helicopter flying, car guy's car guy Bob Lutz. He's
just recently been inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame and has
authored a new book, "Icons and Idiots." We'll be picking his brain about
the state of the automotive industry with no particular agenda in mind, but
make no mistake, this will be a wide-ranging, engaging discussion with the
man who couldn't mince a word if he wanted to. Joining John McElroy in
studio is co-host Peter De Lorenzo, the Autoextremist, and Csaba Csere from
the Valvefloat Group.

1963 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE -- FIRST YEAR OF STACKED HEADLIGHTS
Full size Pontiac's had a restyle this year and the benchmark innovation
was stacked headlights a feature that would be copied by others. This
restyle caused great increase in sales for this division which saw it's
highest year production to date. 589,294 units would be sold. The
wheelbase for this Bonneville is 123 inches and weighs 3,970 lbs. 23,459
of these Bonneville ragtops were made and they cost around $ 3,500 at the
dealer. For manual transmissions, a V8, 389 cid, 235 hp. was available and
auto trannys a V8, 389 cid / 303 hp. The top available engine though is a
V8 Tri-power, 421 cid with 410 hp. Take a look at this good looking
Pontiac. It's been restored and is mostly factory except for the matching
panels on the hood and truck with pinstripping and custom paint patterns.
The stacked headlights, wide track stance and grooved trim mounted on the
trunk lid shows this Bonneville to be a real winner. Thanks very much for
viewing this 1963 Pontiac Bonneville convertible.

1961 Pontiac Bonneville Covnertible
1961 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible for Sale in Chicago. The Bonneville
remained as Pontiac's costliest and most luxurious model throughout the
1960s and was instrumental in pushing Pontiac to third place in sales from
1962 to 1970. The Bonneville differed from its lesser Catalina and Star
Chief counterparts by featuring more luxurious interior trim with upgraded
cloth and Morrokide vinyl or expanded Morrokide upholstery in sedans and
coupes, expanded Morrokide in Safari wagons or genuine leather seating in
convertibles. Bonnevilles (with the exception of Bonneville Safari Station
wagons) were also (along with Star Chiefs) built on a longer wheelbase
version of GM's B-Body. Also found in the Bonneville were instrument panels
and door panels with walnut veneer trim, carpeted lower door panels, grab
bar on passenger side of dash and courtesy lights and rear arm rest. This
Bonneville Convertible has a 389 4brl, 313 horsepower engine, and a
Hydramatic automatic transmission. Options on this car are power
convertible top, power steering and brakes (Wonder Touch), factory AM radio
with an aftermarket radio in the glove box, manual antenna, bucket seats,
full set of Fisher seat belts, Heavy Duty air cleaner, E-Z-Eye glass, 8 lug
wheels with radial white wall tires, back up lamps, passenger side visor
mirror, rear speaker, windshield washer setup, fender mounted side view
remote mirror, clock, fender skirts, ok top boot, dual Exhaust, vinyl interior, and matching Pontiac
floor mats. This car runs and drives great! There is a small patched
section in the convertible top, but the rear glass is still clear. Top
functions properly. This Pontiac is ready for summer fun! 1961 Pontiac

Engine Coolant Thermostat replacement 3800 V6 engine - Pontiac Bonneville P0128 OBD II Code repair
My check engine light came on in the fall of '09 so I had the code pulled.
It was P0128- Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat
Regulating Temperature). I decided to check and replace the thermostat. It
was the problem and has been fine since. Overall the job took about 45 min
to 1 hour including draining, warming the engine, and refilling the cooling
system. It was a pretty easy fix. This problem causes the engine to run too
cool because the thermostat is stuck open, causing more coolant to go
through the radiator than necessary. Ignoring this problem causes the fuel
mixture to be too rich, which will cause poor fuel economy.
