VSCDA ELVF XXVIII Formula Vee 50th Anniversary Race
The Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival XXVIII six lap Formula Vee feature race on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 at Road America. I started 14th out of a field of 31 cars and finished 8th. This was an incredibly fun drive, with tons of drafting and passing and a wild finish where 4 of us fight for that 8th place spot. Pay close attention on lap two as we approach Canada Corner, where John Kennelly takes a spin and there are several close calls as cars take evasive action. After a pass on the straight between turns 4 & 5 on Lap 3, the video skips forward to lap 4 at turn 5 since I didn't have a position change and was just chasing down the cars in the 6, 7, and 8 spots. What follows is a lesson in what not to do in momentum cars on drafting tracks; several times I try to get by Jerry Baker in the blue #18 Lynx in places where I'd have to force the issue if I'd wanted to make the pass (and this is vintage racing, so we don't do that!). All I ended up doing was killing my speed and getting passed for the trouble. I finally figure it out on the last lap, bide my time and make a last ditch drafting pass climbing the hill to the finish. Ricky del Rosario, Mitch Beiser, Jerry Baker and myself all finish within 3/10ths of a second of each other. I want to thank Mike Kitzmiller one last time for coming to my rescue the day before the event and renting me an engine for my Lynx, otherwise I would have just been a spectator all weekend. He, Eric Coppock, Don Carone and Garrett Van Camp installed the engine in the paddock Thursday night and it was flawless all weekend. Hats off to you gentlemen, it was truly impressive.

Formula Vee Racing at Mission Raceway With Formula Ford Crash
Josh Manalo driving an open wheel racecar for the very first time at MRP. Started the race in 2nd place but eventually retired on lap 4 due to an electrical problem cutting our race short. Also in the video is a crash of a Formula Ford hitting the wall on lap 2 on the front straight.

First start of and Racing Formula Vee Engine in over 30 years
I bought a Formula Vee racing engine that had been built by Kenny Brown in 1978 but never started. It was locked it had gotten water in one cylinder and I had to put new rings in that cylinder. I installed it in to a 60's Sardini Formula Vee this is the first time I tried to start it. I later found the fuel pump problem as a leaky fuel filter sucking air.

1965 Austin Mini Cooper S Vintage Racing @ Grattan Michigan
Greg Wold is driving his very fast Mini at the VSCDA races in Grattan. I wish I could take credit for this, but this was Greg's idea. As you can see the car is fast, but watch Greg's footwork and you will see why the car is very fast.

First Formula Vee Drive - PA Hill Climb/SCCA Time Trials (Spring Jefferson at Summit Point)
1st place, 1st time driving the Maloney Racing Mk 2.5 Lazer and 1st TT event. Thanks Hughie for all the generous support! This was my final set of laps which were good enough for 1st place that weekend (after only getting to run the first day). I was only a couple tenths off the lap record held by my friend Chris Elwell. My main priority was to learn the limits of the car without incident. (there are some laps where I was experimenting and not following a perfect line intentionally)
