1937, Oldsmobile was a pioneer in introducing a four-speed semi-automatic
transmission called the "Automatic Safety Transmission", although this
accessory was actually built by Buick, which would offer it in its own cars
in 1938. This transmission featured a conventional clutch pedal, which the
driver pressed before selecting either "low" or "high" range. In "low," the
car shifted between first and second gears. In "high," the car shifted
between first, third and fourth gears.

1999 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight (Moldsmobile)
I woke up this morning and had an urge to remake this video for some
reason. Talk about weird.
Anyways, it's a 1999 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, with a GM 3800 V6 Series II
It gets 26 MPG, and it's not a bad car.
The previous owner had a huge accident with it, and destroyed the front
bumper. So when we got it the cheapest one was red.
I like to call it the Moldsmobile. :)

This is a Very nice 2 Owner Oldsmobile Delta 98 Royale Brougham. It is a
VERY NICE car and runs and steers wonderfully. If you are looking for a

Olds Delta 88 Convertible that runs great and looks great. It has the big
455 Engine in it and the car fires right up and runs great. It has a lot of
power and just cruises down the road. The exterior is very clean, the paint
looks great and has a nice shine to it. The matching white top is in good
condition but does need a new back window. The white matching interior is
in excellent condition. The seats show hardly any wear at all and don't
have any rips or tears in them anywhere. Everything on the cars seems to
work. Very clean car inside and out that doesn't need much work at all to
be a very sweet car.

All GM B-body full-size cars were completely restyled and enlarged for
1971, but continued to ride on a 124-inch (3,150 mm) wheelbase. It was
available as a pillared four-door Town Sedan, two-door and four-door
Holiday hardtops and a convertible. Series models for 1971 included the
base Delta 88, Delta 88 Custom and Delta 88 Royale, the latter inheriting
the convertible body style previously offered on the base Delta 88. All
models received fuselage styling somewhat similar to what Chrysler
Corporation introduced on its 1969 models, and new rooflines with a more
squared off greenhouse for Town sedans and more rounded lines for Holiday
sedans and coupes -- the latter receiving reverting to a semi-fastback
Also new for 1971 was the Custom Cruiser station wagon, the first
full-sized Olds wagon since 1964. It used the 88's B-body platform with a
longer 127-inch (3,200 mm) wheelbase (matching the larger C-body
Ninety-Eight) with multi-leaf spring suspensions that differed entirely
from the all-coil suspensions used in sedans and coupes. The Custom Cruiser
came standard with the larger 455 Rocket V8 and utilized the disappearing
clamshell tailgate of other full-size GM wagons.
Engine offerings again included 350 and 455-cubic-inch Rocket V8s ranging
from 250 to 340 gross horsepower, all of which
featured lowered compression ratios beginning in 1971 to enable use of
lower octane regular leaded 91 RON octane, low-lead or unleaded gasoline.
Vented power front disc brakes and variable-ratio power steering were now
standard equipment on all 88 models. During the 1971 model year the turbo Hydra-matic 400 transmission was added to
the standard equipment list.
For 1973, wider and lower split waterfall grilles flanked a new federally
mandated 5 mph (8.0 km/h) front bumper on all Delta 88 models and larger
one-piece rounded rectangular taillights replaced the four-segmented lights
of 1972. Engine offerings included a standard 350 Rocket V8 with two-barrel
carburetor (150 net horsepower) or optional 455
Rocket V8 with four-barrel carburetion and 215 hp (160 kW) with single Exhaust or 250 hp (186 kW) with dual Exhausts. Model offerings were the same
as 1972 with the Delta 88 Royale series now including the sole Olds
convertible offering following the demise of the intermediate Cutlass
Supreme convertible after 1972.

Don't be fooled by the large-by-huge chrome wheels it's wearing today, this
particular '57 Golden Rocket 88 is an authentic J2 car, and is extensively
and thoroughly restored to original condition from top to bottom. Our
documents suggest that this is one of only four Golden Rocket 88 2-door
sedans in existence with the J2 engine.
The two-tone bodywork on this car is spectacularly done and looks
especially striking in black and white with a red stripe in the chrome trim
that separates the two halves. Bodywork is beautiful, with straight panels
and excellent fit throughout, evidenced by the miles-deep reflections in
The real story on this Olds is the J2 371 cubic inch engine under the hood.
Fully rebuilt during the restoration, it runs like new and the passing of
years has proven that these are some extremely durable engines. Detailing
is first-rate too, from the 'Oldsmobile J2 Rocket" decals on the valve
covers, to the correct 2-barrel carburetors, to the original power steering
system that's fully functional. You'll note that this engine sports a trio
of shorty air cleaners on the carbs, but the original dual oil-bath air
cleaner is also included.
The engine is backed by a 3-speed Hydramatic transmission, and drives the
original rear end. Brakes were rebuilt to stock specifications, as was the
suspension, although the car was given a subtle, aggressive look by
tweaking the spring height slightly. The car wears a set of chrome Billet
Specialties wheels, but the original 15-inch steel wheels and plain hubcaps
From the tri-tone seats with patented GM comfort weave cushions, to the
positively breathtaking instrument cluster, this interior is new. The
original radio has been upgraded to include an iPod interface. The trunk is
sporting a custom carpet, but an original trunk mat is included.
This Olds is fast, comfortable, luxurious, and about 2/3 the cost of a
comparable Chevy. There are no irreversible modifications, and this car
could be put back to 100% stock condition in an afternoon. Act fast and

The Eighty-Eight's front and rear were restyled for 1996 to bear more
resemblance to the flagship Aurora.
In the 1996 model year, GM renamed the model from Eighty Eight Royale to
three models -- Eighty Eight, LSS (A "Luxury Sports Sedan" targeted to male
European car buyers, available with a supercharged V6 and a floor mounted
gear shifter). It is important to note, however, early LSS models (1995)
were rarely equipped with the 3800 Supercharged engine. The LSS was an
originally a trim level package on the 88 starting in 1992. In 1996 the LSS
received Aurora-inspired seats. 1996 was the final year that the
original-style rocket (in black and silver) appeared on a hood emblem. 1997
would welcome the new Oldsmobile logo.
After the demise of the Ninety-Eight in 1996, Oldsmobile created the
Regency for 1997-1998, which used the same front fenders and chrome grille
as the Ninety-Eight sedan but kept the standard Eighty-Eight body. The
Regency featured a long list of standard features including traction
control, leather upholstery, dual 8-way power seats with a driver's side
memory function, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and an
electronic level control for the rear suspension. A standard driver's side
Electrochromic outside mirror was standard on the Regency, a novel feature
for it's time. The interior day/night auto-dimming mirror was linked to the
outside mirror and dimmed both with the same intensity at the same time.
Some of these options, like the 2-driver memory feature, were not available
on the Eighty-Eight Royale or LSS.
All four vehicles used the same 110.8 in (2,810 mm) wheelbase and shared an
updated version of the H-body. The suspension tuning, interior
appointments, and certain exterior trim was used to differentiate the three

"Late" in this instance means 1964-1990. Early('49-64) Olds engines are an
entirely different block, etc.

while, so a correction is that '77-80 heads are 3A, not 4A. 4A heads are
