Of course he had chances to drive AE86 race cars tuned by other shops, but not TRD - because they didn't let him. Back in the 80s, a racer with a background like Tsuchiya was not considered "legit" - His career started off as a street/touge racer, and hadn't gone to any professional driving school. TRD, a Toyota related motorsports company just couldn't allow that kind of person to drive their best race car. However, things have changed after 20 years. Toyota/TRD is hiring variety of drivers with different backgrounds, and also, Tsuchiya succeeded as a true, professional race car driver. At age of 50+, Tsuchiya finally has chance to drive the TRD AE86. With that car, Tsuchiya battled with other top amateur AE86 drivers - Drivers who grew up seeing Tsuchiya make legends, drivers who devoted all of their life and money to battle with him someday, and dreams to win. Toyota Corolla AE86 owner review and buying advice
Subscribe for more videos on the AE86 and other Toyota mechanics! In this video, I give my take on the AE86 as a suitable classic for people just starting in the classic car world. Its interior, equipment, engine, and other aspects are analysed, as well as my personal motivations for buying the car. Should you buy it as a first car? Nope, I believe you should not. Should you drift it? Depends on how deep your pockets are. Is it reliable? Sure, it is a Toyota, It will go on forever if you change oil and filters on time (if you drive normally). Is it good as a classic? Of course. It is not only reasonably confortable but also easy on petrol if you want it to, and powerful enough for the occasional spirited drive. The 4A-GE Engine is very rev-happy, powerful for its displacement and age and will not let you down, with a high reliability record. Overall a fun car, simple and easy to maintain if you do not expect too much of it. I personally love this car and I hope I never have to part with it. The 86 / BRZ / FRS has to be without a doubt one of the best looking commercial cars to come out of Japan in a long time and the Rocket Bunny kits from TRA Kyoto only improves on the cars shape even more. Personally I think TRA Kyoto are so forward thinking with their designs. And the quality, it's leap years above most other aero makers. 1987 Toyota Corolla AE86 Walkaround After Engine and Diff Swap
Running great! very happy with the new motor and very fun to drive around, grips the roads very well and when you want to swing the back its very easy even through I dont have lsd but popping the clutch works wonders. Sadly I sold this baby so I only have 2 weeks left of having fun with the car before it goes to a new owner. I experienced alot with this car and it will be missed. Car has written a chapter in my life.

After being at Dynotorque on the ramps for nearly 6 months, having insane amounts of work done, Today was Phils first ever drive of the AE86 / ASCAR combination. It has a basic start map, so doesn't run correctly yet, but we've not seen a silly smile on his face like this since the DWS15 first moved. WHAT A NOISE! This was a special presentation of that infamous car for the members of the GTROC (www.gtroc.org) during the GTROC Japan Tour 2012. The TRUST company was so kind to invite the GTROC to come and visit the TRUST facility and have a first hand look at the unbelievable GTR 35RX Bensopra. Just a few days after we stood around the car at the Tokyo Auto Salon we had this great opportunity to watch the car exclusively...but not only were we allowed to watch at every detail, no we were even invited to take a seat in the ultra tight race seat and hit the throttle of that monster.
