Incredible gas turbine Rover-BRM back at Le Mans
Bonkers gas turbine-powered racing car revisits Le Mans more than 40 years
after it was campaigned by Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart. Here it is being
The Rover-BRM was the result of a collaboration between Rover and British
Racing Motors during the 1960s, and became the first gas turbine-powered
car to race at Le Mans. It ran at La Sarthe in 1963 and 1964 in an
experimental class of its own, but it wasn't until the 1965 race that was
given a race number and allowed to compete against other cars.
The car was recently recommissioned by a team at the Heritage Motor Museum,
Gaydon and carried out parade laps at the 2014 Le Mans Classic, as well as
winning the Prix d'Excellence at the event's concours.
