Un compacto eficaz, con unos consumos ajustados y bien equipado La última generación del modelo Focus se ofrece en tres estilos de carrocería, con un sedan de 4 puertas, un familiar o Wagon y el 5 puertas o berlina. La marca no tiene previsto ofrecer una variante de 3 puertas y tampoco un descapotable, como se hacía en la generación anterior. La variante de 5 puertas probada cuenta con una longitud de 4,36 m, una altura de 1,48 m y una anchura de 1,82 m. El interior combina una notable funcionalidad con unos acabados de buen aspecto y atrevidos gráficos. La unidad probada contaba con el paquete interior Individual, que tiene un precio de 1.600 € e incluye la tapicería de piel, los asientos delanteros calefactados y el del conductor con ajuste eléctrico. La escala global del programa Focus y la enorme capacidad de producción prevista ha permitido a la marca ofrecer una serie de tecnologías y equipamientos, sobre todo en los aspectos de seguridad activa, que hasta ahora sólo se encontraban en coches más grandes y caros. En este apartado, el Focus se coloca por delante de sus rivales más directos. El motor es un turbodiésel de 2,0 litros de cilindrada que cuenta con turbocompresor de geometría variable e Intercooler y proporciona una potencia máxima de 163 CV. Disfruta de un elevado par de empuje y el valor máximo se mantiene constante entre las 2.000 y 3.250 rpm. El cambio es manual de 6 marchas y la tracción delantera. El coche ofrece un comportamiento muy bueno en todo tipo de trazados y proporciona confianza al conductor desde un primer momento. El balanceo en curvas en mínimo y destaca por su agilidad y eficacia, con un notable aplomo a velocidades elevadas. Los tarados de suspensión son firmes, pero el compromiso entre eficacia dinámica y confort de marcha está entre los mejores del segmento. EQUIPMENT Laminated windscreen, all-round tinted glass, childproof locks on rear doors, bright grille surround, protective bumper inserts with overriders, tobacco vinyl roof, bright Exhaust trim, ghia badging, tachometer, trip recorder, chrome gearshift lever, cut pile carpet, loop pile carpet on foot of doors, head restraints, real wood fascia, remote control drivers door mirror, quartz clock, vanity mirror on sun visor, glove box. EXTERIOR The exterior of this Mk2 Escort is impeccable in every respect. Finished in Diamond White it has a deep, gloss shine which is amazing and an absolute pleasure to polish. The colour code and description sticker is still present in the spotless boot. The Tobacco vinyl roof is unmarked. Supplying Ford Dealer, M & J Quick Ltd pressed aluminium number plates are present. This Dealer branding even extends to the Tax disc holder and window sticker for the true enthusiast. No marks, dings, blemishes or imperfections can be found. It has no stone chips. All the trim is perfect, window rubbers are black and all decals are correct and present including the Ghia badges. The bronze tinted glass is mark free but a few marks can just be seen on the front screen. Paperwork included in the comprehensive history file reveals that the car was treated to Cadulac corrosion application at a cost of £28.75 in addition to Zibart treatment when new. The Zibart plug holes can be seen in all the doors and sills explaining why when detailed in 2010 only two new outer wing panels were fitted. This nut and bolt detailing extends to the under body allowing onlookers to be amazed when mirrors are placed under this vehicle if the new owner chooses to show the car in this way. A very slight colour mismatch exists. INTERIOR The interior of this Escort Ghia is outstanding and as new. The twin reclining front seats are covered in the luxurious Crushed Velour/Verona Chocolate Fabric with no damage. All the headlining is tight and clean, all the gauges including the fascia mounted clock operate as does the two speed heater fan. There is a minor mark on the passenger sunvisor. The boot area including carpet, spare wheel and tools are as new. This car really is a beautiful, unspoilt place to be and exactly how Ford intended. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The 1599cc OHC with twin venturi carburettor and a 4-branch Exhaust manifold performs faultlessly producing 86bhp. Factory standard specification including a high lift camshaft and larger valves make this car a modern classic. The only modification is hardened valves so the car can run safely on unleaded fuel. It is a testament to the thousands spent that the engine bay is a visual delight with every component spotlessly clean just like the day it rolled off the production line. Opening the bonnet on this car will produce a gasp to fellow admirers that the new owner will enjoy time and time again. The four speed close ratio gearbox is precise, light and a joy to use. . WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES This vehicle it fitted with the factory correct and immaculate 13" silver painted sports road wheels with bright rim embellishers. Five brand new Pirelli P3000 155/80 R13 tyres have been fitted. The dual line servo assisted brakes operate faultlessly. HISTORY FILE Purchased new by Mr Arthur D Burgoyne on the 1st October 1979 from Ford Dealer, M & J Quick in Manchester he owned the car for over 30 years.
