This is a Fiat 500 modified by ZCars Ltd to the specification of a customer from Greece. The design brief was to fix his 500 in an interesting way so that it would have more useable power to enable him to drive his family around town in comfort. Whilst he was tempted to have the Suzuki Hayabusa conversion ZCars also produce he decided that he wanted to keep the rear seats. As that is where the 200bhp motorcycle would be installed that option was ruled out!
The engine is an EA81 Subaru engine (1800cc flat 4) which is quite an old engine although still widely used as an aviation engine we are told. This engine was used due to its simplicity, power and torque characteristics and not least its size and shape. This was mated to the original gearbox with clutch and drive shafts up rated. Also up-rated were the brakes with discs all around and the suspension at the front. The transverse leaf spring was removed and adjustable alloy dampers were used with coil springs. A new front subframe was fitted to allow the use of wishbone suspension arms.
Obviously as it is a water cooled engine, radiators were required. This was inserted into the front boot space (trunk) and water pipes run underneath the car. A new stainless steel Exhaust finished the conversion and new wheels and tyres were fitted as an optional extra.

had some problem with the 3rd gear, but with some adjustments it worked

It took more than 9 years, but today my engine did his first run!
Only the crankshaft and housing are original. The other parts I use where:
-Carburetor from an Alfa Romeo 75
-Pistons from Toyota Celica turbo
-Cylinder sleeves, Alfa Romeo 33
-turbo Garret 15
-Cylinder head is from Alfa Romeo boxer engine.
-Inlet and outlet manifold self-made
-Water pump Suzuki GSR 1100
-Oil pump Suzuki GSR 1000
And a lot of parts are self made.

Salve amici, in questo video vi mostro le varie fasi di montaggio di un motore 500R elaborato. Il video può essere utile a qualcuno. La cilindrata è stata elavata a poco più di 650 cc, la testata monocondotto elaborata con accortezza, asse a cammes racing, volano alleggerito, masse alternate e rotatorie ben equilibrate, carburatore Dell' Orto FRD 32 nuovo di pacco, accensione elettronica a scarica induttiva. Dovevo montare il coperchio punterie Abarth in alluminio,ma era un modello troppo alto e, a causa del tipo di carburatore, l' ho dovuto sostituire con uno normale. Abbiamo applicato tutti gli accorgimenti per ridurre al minimo le vibrazioni . Ne è venuto fuori un ottimo compromesso tra , fluidità ai bassi , rumorosità, affidabilità, consumi ,velocità massima, accelerazione, ripresa, tiro in salita. Come vedete, il meccanico ha lavorato solo in mia presenza, nonostante sia esperto, ha accettato suggerimenti; anche in rettifica ho rotto le scatole. Il tuning dei motori 500 è la mia passione, sono un pò pignolo, ma mi si accetta cos'ì come sono. La prova su strada la trovate in un altro video del mio account.
