GMC Terrain Compact SUV | Vehicle Performance Technology
The vehicle performance to the 2012 GMC Terrain Compact SUV is discussed by Doug Smith (Production Engineering Manager), Tim Herrick (Global Vehicle Chief Engineer), Dave Poniatowski (Production Manager), and Lisa Hutchinson (Crossover Product Manager). The GMC Terrain has two powertrains available- the 4 cylinder with a 182 horsepower engine, a towing capacity of 1500 lbs and the 6 cylinder with a towing capacity of 3500lbs. Both powertrains use Variable Valve Timing, Direct injection Dual Overhead CAMs, and 6 speed transmissions which drive performance and fuel economy. The 4 cylinder engine has an Eco Button, or Economy Mode, which provides the maximum amount of fuel economy by changing the shift pattern. The Small SUV is also an All Wheel Drive (AWD) Vehicle which provides power to all four wheels when necessary. The 112"" wheel base is also the largest in its segment for ride handling reasons and provide a comfortable 2nd row egress. The 5 passenger vehicle uses a multi flex seating system to expand its cargo capacity. Using all the benefits and features available to crossovers, the Terrain also has child safety locks right on the console. For more information go to http://www.gmc.com/terrain-small-suv.html. EPA estimated mpg (2WD) 32 Hwy. Based on 2012 GM Compact SUV Traditional Segment. Excludes other GM Vehicles. Cargo capacity limited by weight distribution. When properly equipped Max trailer weight ratings are calculated assuming a base vehicle, except for any options necessary to achieve the rating, plus driver.

For 2013, GMC introduces an all new upscale trim the Denali. Power in the Terrain comes from a average 2.4 L 4-Cylinder or step up to the 3.6 L V6 to get more power out of the crossover. Fuel economy is decent too earning a respectable 22 City and 32 HWY. On the interior you will find the Terrain to have a more premium feel than it's cousin and many other crossovers with nice stitching around the cabin and soft touch interior accents. On the exterior the rear brake lights some what look like the RAV4's and many consumers think the whole shape of the car represents a brick on wheels with it's very utilitarian exterior design and it's boxy shape. Compared to it's competitors the Terrain tends to do many things very well and if you are looking at the small crossover segment the Terrain should be considered on the test drive list.
