1987 Buick Grand National First start in ten years
Video was made for personal use but decided to share
Sat in storage for ten years (01-11)
Changed oil, changed plugs and charged the battery. Thats it.
Fogged the cylinders and ran the motor with out plugs to build up oil pressure before i started it.
Smoke from start up was from the fogging oil, I still cant believe how easy it started. Even the gas in ten years old! Although, it was before Ethanol was added to everything and it was treated with a heavy dose of good stabilizer. It will be drained and new fuel will be added before we run it again.
Enjoy!

All black, all business, and so sinister even your shut-in grandmother knows it means trouble on the streets, this 9,536 mile Buick Grand National survivor is nearly perfect in every way!
Assembled in Pontiac, Michigan and delivered to Whelan Buick in Freehold, New Jersey, this low-mileage G-Body is one turbo Buick survivor that's in outstanding condition! A wet-looking coat of GM code 19U black lacquer highlights modern Buick styling that's both crisp and sharp. The car's vertical panels center straight surfaces in even gaps and show no signs of damage or accident repairs. And its finish, which is topped by great looking original trim, is every bit as glossy as it is deep. We all know how bad mid-80s GM paint application can be. But not on this Buick, it was definitely sprayed by someone who knew exactly what they were doing; and when it comes to overall presentation, it's one of the nicest factory Grand Nationals we've ever seen!
Speaking of survivors and GM's post-apocalyptic business model, if anyone ever gets around to doing an ultimate engine survivor's list Buick's stalwart 231 cubic inch V6 will surely be at the top. Introduced as the Fireball, and eventually renamed the 3800, its early 60s design was sold to Kaiser, bought back by General Motors and, with the help of turbos, Superchargers and continuous improvements, would remain one of the company's core powerplants until the turn of the century! For the 1986 model year the Grand National's turbocharged 3.8 liter, which had already benefitted from sequential fuel injection and a distributorless ignition system, saw significant mechanical changes that included a new air-to-air Intercooler, adjustments to its Garrett turbo, improved upper and lower intake manifolds, and a redesigned Exhaust system. All those carefully calculated tweaks and improvements were good for a newly impressive 235 horsepower and 330 lb./ft. of V8 slaying of torque. And the car's drag strip scorching performance would not only best GM's own Camaro and Corvette, but also catapult it to the forefront of 80s performance!
The car's hot turbo engine spins torque through an original BRF tagged member of GM's ultra-reliable turbo-Hydramatic 4-speed transmission family; an honorable and faithful group that's survived behind GM's toughest performance blocks for decades. That seasoned transmission twists a set of original 3.42 gears which offer a great combination of starting line grip and high-speed cruising ability. And at the ends of that heavy duty drivetrain, double A-arm front and four link rear Gran Touring suspensions create NASCAR inspired handling characteristics. Unrestrained these Buick's were probably legitimate 150 MPH cars, but the factory knew the limitations of the Regal's aerodynamics, suspension, and brakes and wisely chose to reign in the fun long before peak velocity. Speaking of brakes and the like, factory power front discs and rear drums provide solid stops. Fast ratio power steering makes cornering easy and turning a cinch. And at the corners, mirror-like wheels spin great looking 215/65/15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 radials around bright Grand National center caps.
Inside this awesome street bruiser you'll find an all-original gray and black interior that's literally spotless. Typical Buick fashion dictates more comfort than sport, but that's what GM's entry luxury brand has always been about anyway. And naturally, that means this Grand National is loaded with all the features you'd expect including power windows, power locks, climate control, cruise control, a completely electronic Delco-GM AM/FM cassette stereo, a tilt steering wheel, a rear window defroster, an electronic trunk release, and of course, Grand National-specific Lear Siegler seats that include six-way power adjustment for the driver. In front of those seats digital gauges, which seem completely appropriate in this turbo Buick, inhabit a blocky dash that's free of warps and cracks. At the sides of those seats, light and linear door panels combine with the car's pristine T-tops to provide an airy and comfortable ride. And the driver interfaces with the road through a cool looking satin-spoke steering wheel.
Come on in, pick this Buick up, and enjoy one of the nicest Grand Nationals on the planet WHILE it appreciates! Call, click or visit http://RKMotorsCharlotte.com for more information on this awesome car!
