The all-new 2012 Hyundai Accent was revealed at the New York Auto Show. Hyundai is aiming to make serious headway in a subcompact class that is increasingly crowded and competitive—the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, and the new Ford Fiesta and Mazda2 all play in the same sandbox. Like the Versa and the Fiesta, the new Accent is offered as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback. The only engine is a 1.6-liter inline-four with direct injection, which manages 138 horsepower and 123 lb.-ft. of torque, and can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The sedan will be the cheaper of the two, starting at $12,445. Nissan revealed the all-new 2012 Nissan Versa at the New York Auto Show. The stylish new Versa comes standard with fuel saving features like Nissan's new dual injector system and sub-planetary CVT transmission design. The new Versa isn't just stylish it's also very fuel efficient. It's expected combined city/highway fuel economy is 33 miles per gallon. The new Versa is small on the outside but big on the inside. A $10,990 starting M.S.R.P. and low cost of ownership allows the average consumer to enjoy this stylish new vehicle from Nissan. The new 1.6-liter engine is rated at 109 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 107 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm. The Versa Sedan is available with a 5-speed manual transmission (1.6 S model only) and with a next-generation Xtronic CVT™ transmission. The CVT allows continuous change of the transmission gear ratio by connecting the two pulleys with a metallic belt and changing their diameter by using hydraulic pressure. The new CVT design adds an auxiliary gearbox using planetary gearing, helping improve efficiency.
