Roadfly.com - 2012 Hyundai Accent
The all-new 2012 Hyundai Accent was revealed at the New York Auto Show. Hyundai is aiming to make serious headway in a subcompact class that is increasingly crowded and competitive—the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, and the new Ford Fiesta and Mazda2 all play in the same sandbox. Like the Versa and the Fiesta, the new Accent is offered as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback. The only engine is a 1.6-liter inline-four with direct injection, which manages 138 horsepower and 123 lb.-ft. of torque, and can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The sedan will be the cheaper of the two, starting at $12,445. The hatches will be considerably more, starting at around $14,600. —Ross Rapoport, Road Test Editor and Video Host Vehicle: 2012 Hyundai Accent Base Price: $12,445 (est.) Scion introduced the FR-S Sports Coupe Concept at the 2011 New York Auto Show. This new sport concept from Toyota's Scion division features rear-wheel drive and a flat 2.0-liter boxer engine utilizing Toyota's D4-S direct and port injection systems. The FR-S Concept, which stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport; is Scion's definition of an authentic rear-wheel-drive sports car with compelling style, exceptionally balanced performance and handling, flexible utility and surprising MPG. The flat-four can mate with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual offers quick and precise shifts with a short-throw, while the automatic transmission features aggressive, sporty shifts that are initiated by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Power is distributed effectively via a limited-slip differential.
