Hey he had minor injuries and a hurt ego is a lesson well learned .On Wed. the 20th you will get to see Don and here his story for the first time as he came down from the hills he lives in and granted an interview plus the sequence rarely (if ever) seen . Early 80s 4 bolt block from a 1 ton van with custom dremel ridge removal Original cast crankshaft from the same block 130K mile L31 pistons and rods. Factory rings as well. Fresh hone in cylinders 9.5:1 Compression Clevite bi-metal bearings New brass freeze plugs Stock 130k miles L31 oil pump with Melling driveshaft and new stock oil pan Stock junkyard Vortec heads with Crane springs. Monte Carlo SS 305 H.O. First drive with the old 305 back in
For those of you who have been with me from the beginning of the installation of the original 305, here is the first drive. It used a lot more gasoline than I expected, so I'm not going to drive it any more until the new fuel tank is installed. Once that happens, it should be on the road for good. Seems to run ok so far. For those of you who haven't been following, this engine is the original engine that was removed from the car in 1998 when a crate motor was installed by the original owner. When I bought the car earlier this year, he also gave me the original engine. The ZZ3 came out for use in my turbo Iroc project, so for now the 305 goes back in the Monte until the new engine is built.
