How to Rebuild a Turbo - Part 1 of 2
Rebuilding a td05h 16g turbo. This process can be applied to many journal bearing turbochargers. :) It definitely comes in handy to know how to do this when you are in this type of hobby.
4/25/12: Small explanation on the balancing of the rotating assembly since I get so many comments regarding it. This particular turbocharger, td05h, has it's rotating assembly components balanced separately. This means each individual part (compressor wheel, turbine wheel/shaft) gets balanced separately. This allows for easy interchangeability of parts in case they need replacing. This is why I am able to install a td05 20g wheel on this turbo without having to balance the entire rotating assembly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ALL turboS OUT THERE. You need to research whether your specific turbo (if it's not td05h) was balanced as an assembly or "component balanced" like I explained above. Smart CDI -29C cold start
8th December, 2009. Novosibirsk, Russia. Cranks pretty good, but baaaarely starts... Smart fortwo says "leave me alone, dude". ABS and ESP freezed, which is why there's a warning light on the dash. The steering is very hard at the beginning due to freezed suspension. I used Liqui Moly diesel antigel, whis is the best in my oppinion, although a bit pricey.

Video is long because i decided to warm up the battery first a little and had no time to cut the video. No gas pedal, only clutch pedal down, because the liquids were really thick and i didnt want to float the engine
VW Passat B6 TDI Blown Turbo
This is not my car as I would've had this fixed long ago. Company car from my uncle. Has been driving like this for about a month now that I know of, possibly longer. I took it for a test drive, and it just lacks power big time. Basically driving without the turbo. Also puffs out a lil black smoke sometimes. We recently took the car through the mountains in Bavaria and Austria also, and I'd have to say we were lucky we never broke down. It still reaches 210 kmh which is surprising also with a blown turbo, and hasn't thrown an engine code yet! It is in the dealer now, but I won't know what they say until he gets the car back. Knowing dealerships, they most likely won't even fix it unless it's throwing a code.. just sounds horrendous. Dentist drill, metal on metal scrapping sound. I wonder what would happen if the turbo just seized up.. lol
