Buick - History Documentary (1995)
This video is a wonderfully-done documentary, written and produced by
Michael Rose, on the history of Buick as presented in 1995 from the History
Channel's archive. Here is Michael's description of the video verbatim:
"No one would have believed that the tinkering of a plumber would turn into
the foundation of the world's largest corporation. But it did. David Dunbar
Buick invented a process to adhere porcelain to tubs and other bathroom
fixtures. But the Scottish immigrant dreamed of making a mark out of the
bathroom, and set to work building a car. By 1900, he enlisted the aid of
another inventor, Walter Marr, and they built their first vehicle. Their
invention attracted the attention of one of Michigan's wealthiest men,
William Crapo Durant, the president of the world's largest buggy-building
business. As soon as he drove one of Buick's early creations, Durant
realized that the days of the horse and buggy were over. He teamed up with
Buick, and the two went on to make history. By the thirties, Buicks were
regarded as some of the finest cars ever made. From the first Buicks
through the birth of General Motors and into history, this is the
compelling story of the partnership that eventually became the basis for
the largest company in the world."

1987 Buick Grand National VS 2010 V6 Chevy Camaro 1/4 Mile run 2010
Been working on my GN with my friends for the past two years and decided to
give her a run for the first time at a local cruise night. Not being at the
track in years I didn't know where to stage and didn't have time to build
Boost...but 12.1 in 1/4 is a good
start. It's a 1987 Buick Grand National with 26k original miles with stock
motor and a few bolt on. The paint and interior are all stock.

Heists are, by their nature, illegal. So what could be a better car for a
heist than a sinister black Buick Grand National GNX? And that's just what
Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) drives at the beginning of Fast & Furious as
he robs a land train full of high-octane fuel. No one in the picture car
department remembers exactly how the GNX won its role, except that it
seemed such a natural choice that no one gave it a second thought.
Considering the intense stunts performed during the filming of this opening
sequence, it's probably not surprising that a lot of Buick Grand Nationals
(but no actual GNXs) were sacrificed in its creation. In fact, the picture
car department created seven of them, all based on real GNs or T-Types.
Four would wind up scrapped.
The most unusual of the seven GNs built was one with the body mounted
backward on the frame so it could be driven at speed while appearing to be
going backward. To get the engine tucked under the trunk lid, however, the
turbocharger and its plumbing had to be
removed. Most of the other GNs retained their original turbo V6s, though a couple had Chevy crate V8s
It's amazing it took this long for someone to give the Grand National the
starring role it deserved.
Grand National passes Corvette as it wrecks
John N. testing his tricked out Stage 2 Grand National at Thunder Valley
Raceway park. His opponent in a Corvette stays in it too long and narrowly
misses hitting the GN as it passes by! The GN's build up had recently been
completed and this was intended to be a soft pass with only 20# of Boost. The camera person was there to film
the car's reaction to the launch for tuning purposes. They were so focused
on the GN that they did not notice what was happening to the Corvette until
it was over.
GN vs. GT500
I ran a GT500, he wasnt talking to anyone, just acting like his GT500 was a
Ford GT or something. He did a really weird burnout and I let him get the
jump. I guess he liked his rims to much to get a stickier tire because all
he did was spin. It wasnt even a race, his time ended up being 21.41
seconds in the quarter.

wrenching on the car, with the hopes of driving it home from Phoenix to Los
