Since I am into more things than just RC I thought this might be a great way to expand the channel a little. I have been wanting to do a review and drive of a long time member of the family. This is the old man's 1959 Plymouth he has had.. well basically since 1959. I hope you enjoy seeing this "old bomb" as he calls it. Vehicle Highlights: Fury V-800 Super-Pak V8; 318ci - 260hp / 345tq. For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/mfty88l Tastefully modified, from its custom suspension and Greg Bolton Hemi to its custom sheetmetal and Boyd Coddington wheels, this squared-jawed Chrysler is dangerously fast and brutally appealing. This superb Satellite's high quality, professional restoration began when its solid convertible body was meticulously stripped and carefully massaged by Freddy Valdez of Santa Ana, California. Once that canvas was fully prepped, a $20K coat of House Of Kolor two-stage was rotisserie sprayed and buffed to a brilliant, wet-look shine. Naturally, all of the car's panels remain laser-straight, with a closer look revealing even gaps and fantastic fitment. And overall, this sinister Plymouth presents well from every angle, offering undistorted reflections that have more depth than most swimming pools. Toss the Jet Black hood and you'll find a 426 cubic inch Greg Bolton Hemi that takes this brazen Mopar from "very appealing" to "GOTTA HAVE" almost as fast as it takes the car's driver from "nitro junkie" to "white knuckle tight"! At the top of the 500 horsepower mill, a custom air system mixes wind from two reusable filter elements with fuel that's supplied by two Holley carburetors, custom stainless fluid lines and a vertical Summit pressure gauge. At the base of those carburetors, a big aluminum intake sends a rich air/fuel mixture into aluminum Mopar cylinder heads that are built with Dick Landy rockers and capped with aluminum, "Mopar HEMI" valve covers. That air/fuel mixture is sparked by an MSD Blaster 2 coil via a traditional points distributor and blue Taylor plug wires. The resultant combustion comes courtesy of an Eagle crank, ARP bolts, Clevite 77 bearings, Manley rods, a solid-lifter Competition cam and brutal Keith Black pistons. Cooling for those hot fires is provided by a big, aluminum radiator that's seated between a high volume pump, a Mopar Performance neck and fully polished accessories. And spent gases are efficiently expelled through a slick set of high performance Tom Face headers. Behind that big bore engine, a Bob Mazzolini-built Torqueflite utilizes Gear Vendors under/overdrive to spin a traditional Dana 60 that's fitted with Truetrac innards and big, 3.73 gears. Naturally, the car's old-school torsion bar and leaf spring suspension has been completely swapped for Black Nickel, No Limits control arms, 2-inch drop spindles and a custom, 4-link rear end that's complete with a Black Nickel X-bone. And at the corners of that suspension, power flows to the ground through a sweet set of Boyd Coddington Classic II wheels, which spin 235/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 285/40ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs. Restored by The Upholsterers in Riverside, California, and finished in quality Legendary vinyl, this Plymouth's cockpit brings a real sense of class to a car with a generally solemn and subdued nature. In front of the driver, a Painless-wired instrument cluster and correct Plymouth radio ride inside a classy, stainless-trimmed dash. Below that dash, a factory console seats a modern B&M QuickSilver shifter inside what seems like a mile of chrome trim. And below that console, fresh black carpet is protected by heavy, color-keyed floor mats. On top of that carpet, fully restored seats prop intricately detailed covers in front of a sweet, 2-spoke steering wheel that's complete with a glowing red centerpiece. With its killer drivetrain, striking appearance and first rate restoration, this Satellite is dripping with the scarce qualities that literally define the term "one-of-a-kind". So for 1926 the Maxwell was reworked and re-badged as the low-end Chrysler "52" model. In 1928, the "52" was once again redesigned to create the Chrysler-Plymouth Model Q. The "Chrysler" portion of the nameplate was dropped with the introduction of the Plymouth Model U in 1929. Great Depression, 1940s and 1950s While the original purpose of the Plymouth was to serve a lower-end marketing niche, during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the marque helped significantly in ensuring the survival of the Chrysler Corporation in a decade when many other car companies failed. Beginning in 1930, Plymouths were sold by all three Chrysler divisions (Chrysler, DeSoto, and Dodge). Plymouth sales were a bright spot during this dismal automotive period, and by 1931 Plymouth rose to the number three spot among all cars. In 1931 with the Model PA, the company introduced floating power and boasted, "The economy of a four; the smoothness of a six." In 1933 Chrysler decided to catch up with Ford and Chevrolet with respect to engine cylinder count. The 190 cu in version of Chrysler's flathead-6 engine was equipped with a downdraft carburetor and installed in the new 1933 Plymouth PC, introduced on 17 November 1932. However, Chrysler had reduced the PC's wheelbase from 112 in (284.5 cm) to 107 in (271.8 cm), and the car sold poorly. By April 1933, the Dodge division's Model DP chassis, with a 112 in (284.5 cm) wheelbase, was put under the PC body with DP front fenders, hood, and radiator shell. The model designation was advanced to PD and the car was marketed as the "DeLuxe" 1933 Plymouth. This car sold very well and is the 1933 model most commonly found in collections. The PC became the 'Standard Six'. It had been the 'Plymouth Six' at introduction, and was sold through to the end of 1933, but in much lower numbers. It is consequently in the minority in collectors' hands today. In 1937, Plymouth (along with the other Chrysler makes) added safety features such as flat dash boards with recessed controls and the back of the front seat padded for the rear seat occupants. The PC was shipped overseas to Sweden, Denmark, and the UK, as well as Australia. In the UK it was sold as a 'Chrysler Kew', Kew Gardens being the location of the Chrysler factory outside London. The flathead 6 which started with the 1933 Model PC stayed in the Plymouth until the 1959 models. In 1939 Plymouth produced 417,528 vehicles, of which 5,967 were two-door convertible coupes with rumble seats. The 1939 convertible coupe was prominently featured at Chrysler's exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair, advertised as the first mass-production convertible with a power folding top. It featured a 201 cu in, 82 hp version of the flathead six engine. For much of its life, Plymouth was one of the top-selling American automobile brands; it together with Chevrolet and Ford were commonly referred to as the "low-priced three" marques in the American market...
