My 1973 Buick Apollo making a time trial pass at Pamona, CA for Super Chevy 2002
This is the only pass that I ever made down Pamona. We drove the car 90 miles in Friday morning LA traffic to get there. I made this one time trial pass and got a call that the wife was in the hospital getting ready to deliver our daughter, so my buddies raced it for me the rest of the weekend. They did good, made it into 3rd or 4th round, not bad at all for their first time ever running. At the time the car was running 12.70's @ 109 down at Carlsbad Raceway which was my home track. Still have the car just doesn't see much action and when it does it's at Mid Michigan Motorplex, and now my daughter is 9 years old now.

Yes, I went backwards from a Typhoon to a stock Explorer intake. For one I wanted to see 1st hand the difference in performance. So far on a little street romping it doesn't appear that it gives up anything over the Typhoon but that will be seen in 6 days when I make it back out to the track for a bit of test and tune on May 11. Stay tuned to see if it can repeat the 11's with a stock Explorer intake to go along with it's assembly line built stock Explorer short block. Aside from the cam and valve springs, of course.

This is my 1st time running in NMRA Factory Stock. This is round 1 qualifying vs Matthew Williams. This is still my stock-untouched Explorer long block that's been in here since '06, not a purpose built race engine just a custom cam for the class from Scott Brown @ http://www.buyracingparts.com/. I was struggling something awful getting the car to come out of the hole all weekend long. I learned ALOT over the weekend and hope to see everyone in Joliet next month!

1966 Buick Convertible Barn Find Rescue, Part 1
This is the story of a '66 Buick Special convertible that had been abandoned in Arizona in 1978 by the family of Rick Pewe, editor of 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine. In 2011, the guys from HOT ROD Magazine, in conjunction with Rick, spent four days bringing the car back from the dead with plans to drive it home from Phoenix to Los Angeles. This is part 1, with the hacking fun the guys had rescuing the car. Look for part two, loaded with road-trip hilarity. The story is printed in the September 2011 issue of HOT ROD Magazine.
