Making a Wheelie Bar and Dragracing Tires - FG Dragster
I'm working on my next project, another largescale onroad car. It's an FG Sportsline 2WD 530. This car is going to be turned into a 1970 Dodge Challenger! Today I'm making my own wheelie bar and a custom set of rear tires. I couldn't find any scale looking wheelie bars for this monster-to-be, so I decided to construct my own. I took some Axial balljoints and rodends, that I had as spares. These parts, listed in the links below, are intended for the 4-link suspension setup of the Axial SCX10. By adding some M4 threaded rods, slid into some 6mm aluminium tubing, I can line the whole construction up for my needs. I added a modified bodypost from the same parts tree to mount the top to the rear shocktower. On the rear, I slid some of the aluminium tubing through the 4 rodends to connect them, and used an Axial winchblock to act as a "wheel" in between them. The functionality of the wheelie bar is not as important as the look. And, I wanted to keep the cost low. A wheelie bar like this will end up costing you around 20 dollar. Axial balljoints: http://www.axialracing.com/products/ax80018 Axial rodends: http://www.axialracing.com/products/ax80005 Axial winchblock: http://www.axialracing.com/products?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=80102 The tires I want to use on the rear need to have a larger diameter. I sourced a set of rear 5th scale Formula 1 rims and tires, that I drill and dremel out to fit to my Centerline rims. A link to the tires can be found here: https://www.fg-onlineshop.de/ItemBlock.aspx?ig3=Reifen&ig2=Formel+1+Reifen& ig3id=23&ig2id=100&mi=0&webi=1 This build is going to have a ton of special features, a few of them rather unique, and I will take you through the whole build process step by step so if you want to, you can follow along. Make sure to subscribe to see what the 2WD will turn into, so far I can reveal this much: it will pack a true punch, will represent an icon of it's era, and will be unlike any RC you have ever seen before! KWS 410 Sprint Car Wheelie Contest at Santa Maria Speedway July, 2011
On July 9, 2011 at Santa Maria Speedway during the King of the West Golden State Challenge event, Angello's ATV Rentals hosted the third annual $1000 winner take all wheelie contest. The defending champion from last year was Brent Kaeding, but he didn't compete for it this year. This year's contestants were: #OB1 Orval Burke Sr. - Salinas, CA #29 Bud Kaeding - Campbell, CA #4s Dan Simpson - Rio Vista, CA Information about each segment follows: #1 - Orval Burke Sr. in the OB1 Sprint Car completes his first attempt. #2 - Bud Kaeding in the 29 Sprint Car does his first wheelie and ends up getting stuck on the berm in turn 1. #3 - Bud Kaeding completes his other attempts and does some impressive donuts. #4 - Bud Kaeding shows the crowd his excitement after his attempt. #5 - Dan Simpson driving the 6s does his three attempts including hitting the wall in turn 1. #6 - Dan Simpson does some more wheelies for the crowd on hand. #7 - Orval Burke Sr.'s last two attempts in which the first one nearly hits the announcer and judges and the third and winning one where he loses control and ends up flipping and crashing his car near turn 4. Sorry about the blurriness in the video as my auto focus doesn't work well with fast zooming in. He didn't get his car fixed in time to compete in the A-Main later in the night. #8 - An Interview with Orval Burke Sr. and Bud Kaeding and the fan vote on who wins the money. After the video, Orval Burke Sr. was confirmed the winner and took some photos. Sorry if the resolution is not the best in the world as I couldn't upload this video in HD even though I recorded it in HD. Anyways, Please feel free to like, comment, and/or leave feedback as it is greatly appreciated. Enjoy This Video and once again, Thanks For Watching!!!!
