Chevy Rescues Ford Pickup in Deep Water, Grayland, Washington
It was about 1:00 PM today 7/17/2010 when a driver and 3 passengers were
traveling south on the Grayland beach. About 5 miles south of Westport. It
is legal to drive on the uppermost part of the wet sand on the beach in
Grayland. They were traveling along the surf line when they drove out onto
a sand spit. The driver drove off the sand spit into a deep trench caused
by tidal action. The impact was vilant enought to send one passenger to the
hospital with a non- life threatining head injury. She was treated by
Grayland Fire Department and South Beach EMS then transported to Grays
Harbor Community Hospital. The male driver and two other female passengers
were uninjured other than being very cold and wet. A very dedicated tow
truck operator, Justin Jones with South Beach Towing raced to the scene and
quickly got to work. Justin along with the driver of the pickup waded
shoulder deep threw the cold salt water, to connect a tow rope to the Ford
Diesel Pickup and pulled the rope with a South Beach Towing pickup breaking
the strong suction of the soft sand holding the partially submereged
vehical in place. Once the suction of the sand was releaved the pickup
began to float as water rushed up the hood and icechests floated about the
back of the pickup. Justin Jones, the tow truck operator worked hard to get
the Ford to dry land however he estimates that the diesel pickup will be a
total loss. A Washington State Park Officer stated that the driver will be
issued a citation however it was unknown what citation he will be issueing.
I do know it is unlawful to drive next to the surf line at low tide do to
that being razor clam habitat. UPDATE 7/24/2010. I just found out that the
lady transported to the hospital sustained a broken neck. I hope she has a
speedy full recovery.
Cummins 4bt jeep
First trail run after build-up of my jeep with a Cummins 4BT engine. This
was at Moab this year at the Easter Jeep Safari. Not a very good video, but
somebody wanted to see it actually move. First jeep (white) is a stock
wheelbase, whereas mine is stretched to 105"(12" stretch). Second part
shows me killing it trying out different gears on the climb.
Lil Red Cummins Express - 100PSI Test Passes
Not your typical pickup! Not your typical diesel either, this 1000hp
cummins pickup has some serious character, and boy does it get down! The
owner was testing at the Bayou Drags this weekend, and although he never
mad a full pass, it was a treat to see this thing rollin' coal!
Jeep Willys with Tank Tracks
Bolt on tank tracks on a modified Jeep Willys powered by a Buick V6 engine.
The Tracks were manufactured by a company called "A. F. Wagner Industries
Inc." of concord California. They were made sometime during the mid 60s
and there was only 6 sets made and were apparently expensive and thus may
be the reason there were so few made. They are called "Wagner-Trac" and
were made specifically as a set of tank tracks for a jeep with a wheelbase
of 81 inches. The wheelbase is not adjustable so the wheelbase is critical
and just like a tank you would have to install turning brakes to drive the
Jeep because the steering is null and void as soon as you bolt them on.
They are all steel construction so were probably designed for offroad only.
Built and driven by Mark Van Aacken.
