3rd Gen Camaro Build
A (lotta) work in progress. I started this project to swap a 191cubic inch
V6 to a 350 V8 (along with performance parts, and swapping & upgrading the
transmission) in 2009. (see modifications list below.) These are pictures
and videos as I progressed and the very first engine start and test drive.
I applied primer to protect the metal as I knew I would have to put the
project on hold, which is where it has been since. Plan to start again by
gutting & redoing the interior here in 2012.
350 block swap
moddified Vortec heads
CompCams XE268 cam
Edelbrock Performer RPM Vortec intake
Edelbrock 750cfm AVS carb
Headman 1 5/8 headers
- .500" line pressure Boost valve
- huge servos
- servo release check valve
- TCI throttle valve
- TCI Breakaway 2400 stall converter (lockup)
- B&M ratchet shifter, front oil cooler, TrickShift oil.
Me and one of my buddies Nick painted his Camaro back home in georgia. Not
bad for a bunch of amatures. Let us know what you think!

During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the
vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel
economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach
you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed
fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership
yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique
differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it
would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion
with rev and Exhaust note with
interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car
designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

Another 2nd gear burnout from a couple years ago when the car had an
automatic and Pro Stars. Hard to tell from the video but this was about
250 feet or so... not bad for 2.73 gears
3rd Gen Camaro - Fox-Body Mustang (the good, bad and the ugly)
Most car guys don't know the difference between the 230hp G92 optioned
models, or the 5-speed and automatic models, or the 170hp lackluster TBI
versions (not to be confused with TPI versions)... Mustang guys smoke the 170hp TBI
models, as well as the "run of the mill" TPI automatic models, and believe
they can do this to any and all. Well, not all 3rd Gen F-bodies are created
equal. Optioned from the factory with the 230hp TPI (not TBI) engine,
manual 5-speed tranny and 3.42 gears, these 3rd Gen F-body sleepers gave
5.0 Mustangs absolute hell.
In 1990 the G92 option code became a full performance package rather than
simply a rear axle option as in previous model years... GM also offered an
answer to the Saleen Mustangs by way of option 1LE, which
consisted of the G92 optioned without A/C and other creature comforts, and
the addition of Corvette brakes and other road racing equipment.
About the only way an IROC-Z Camaro could take out a 5.0L Mustang from this era was with
the Tuned Port Induction and addition of these performance options: G92,
1LE, L98 or B4C.
The TBI powered Camaro
were not at all in the same league as the performance version TPI Camaro, or 5.0 Mustang, these 170hp TBI models were
GM's economy de-tuned versions and were around 50-60 less horsepower versus the
performance optioned TPI models. These non-performing models gave the 3rd
Gen F-bodies a bad rep on the street... many think that these were the
example of 3rd Gen F-bodies, when in fact, and unlike Ford, GM offered many
models, with many engines, camshafts and rear-gear ratios...

Corvette loses hat & control, camaro & porsche burn it up
This is a clip from the SCCA Beech Mountain hill climb turns 7,8,9 and
finish. The finish line is really hairy, lots of spin-outs and wrecks.
The corvette is pushing hard and gets it loose. On the last day a Mustang went right through my
camera position. If I had been there well...splat!
