Internationales Karmann Ghia Treffen am 12.08.2011 in Georgsmarienhütte
In Georgsmarienhütte wurde vom 12.-14.08.2011 das große Jubiläumstreffen "50 Jahre Karmann Ghia Typ 34" gefeiert, zu dem ca. 500 Karmann Ghias und zahlreiche Ghia-Freunde aus ganz Europa angereist waren.
Neben Ausstellungen, Fahrzeugschau, Benzingesprächen, Vorträgen und einer Preisverleihung war die große Jubiläumsausfahrt aller Fahrzeuge das Highlight der Veranstaltung. Zahlreiche Zuschauer in Georgsmarienhütte und an der Strecke durch den Osnabrücker Südkreis bestaunten die 500 Fahrzeuge. Mit diesem dritten großen Karmann Ghia Treffen nach 2005 und 2007 hat sich Georgsmarienhütte als "Ghia-Veranstaltungsort" fest etabliert.

VW Karmann Ghia Type 14 was built by Karmann in Osnabrück. The VW Karmann-Ghia was offered as a coupe and convertible. Total of 443,466 cars - 362,585 coupes and 80,881 convertibles Volkswagen sold between 1955 and 1974. The technology of the Karmann-Ghia Type 14 was almost identical except for a few details with the VW Käfer.
Der VW Karmann-Ghia Typ 14 wurde bei Karmann in Osnabrück gebaut. Der VW Karmann-Ghia wurde als Coupé und Cabriolet angeboten. Insgesamt 443.466 Autos 362.585 Coupés und 80.881 Cabriolets verkaufte Volkswagen zwischen 1955 und 1974. Die Technik des Karmann-Ghia Typ 14 war bis auf wenige Details weitgehend identisch mit dem VW Käfer.

1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Engine Start
First time starting up the 2333 cc engine (91x84mm) that I installed in my wife's freshly restored 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible. Yes, I know my coil is installed upside-down. The after-market wire harness was installed with too little slack to reach a downward-pointing coil. This is temporary.

It is a heartbreaker of a car, a real dreamboat and possibly the most beautiful VW ever built. However the sporty coupe does have one small drawback. Its design is far racier than its driving performance.The first Ghias were fitted wtih 30 horsepower VW Beetle engines, while later models got 50 horsepower motors. Still, when the Karmann Ghia was introduced back in 1955 this was more than enough to keep vehicles like the Goggomobil and BMW Isetta in check. During it's close to 20 years in production, some 443,000 Ghias were sold. Today this classic car has nothing left to prove. We take a relaxing drive in this stylish milestone of automotive history.
